Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

A great base for a traditional seaside family holiday, located less than a minute’s walk from the bay with its pebble beach, a wonderful retreat.

This delightful, Victorian terraced cottage is a couple of minutes’ walk from both Tennyson Down and Freshwater Bay, with its sweeping pebbly beach and white chalk cliffs. The property is very well presented with tastefully designed interiors and spacious, enclosed gardens to the front and rear.
A charming entrance hall, with hanging space for coats and plenty of room for muddy walking boots, leads you in to the comfortable living/dining room with woodburner and wooden floors. From the living room you pass through the rear hall into the well equipped, fully fitted kitchen overlooking the garden. The stairs lead up from the rear hallway to three beautifully appointed bedrooms, two of which have sea views. Upstairs you will also find a spacious bathroom with a shower over the bath.
Coastguards is ideally situated in a quiet lane and a lovely place for couples, small groups of friends or families to stay, from which to explore this beautiful island.
This area is renowned for its spectacular walks: 4 miles west over Tennyson Down gets you to the Needles; to the east, Tennyson Trail takes you to Brook, Mottistone, Shorwell and even as far as Carisbrooke, encompassing breathtaking views, great country pubs and National Trust and English Heritage properties along the way. Compton Beach is 2 miles along the coast road. Spectacular at low tide, it is great for walks, catching the surf, building sandcastles and hunting for fossils and dinosaur footprints. The picturesque town of Yarmouth, where the ferry arrives from Lymington, is a flat 3-mile walk from the cottage along the river. Freshwater Bay was a hub for many interesting characters during Victorian times: Dimbola Lodge, the home of Julia Margaret Cameron, a world renowned photography pioneer, is at the end of the lane; a little further up the road is Tennyson’s home, Farringford.
The island can be explored by open top bus which stops at the end of Coastguards Lane. Calbourne Mill, the only working mill on the Isle of Wight, features a small war museum, rural exhibits and a café. Chessell Pottery Barns is another attraction where you can paint your pots and enjoy lovely food.
Outdoor pursuits are all easily accessible: Tapnell Farm is within easy reach which, as well as having a lovely restaurant, gallery, interesting animals and an indoor play area, hosts the Isle of Wight Activity Centre which can organise canoeing, coasteering and grass surfing at Freshwater Bay. Wight Cycle Hire will deliver bikes to your door and Hill Farm stables are 2 miles away. There is a stunning golf course overlooking the bay. Beach 150 yards. Shop 700 yards, pubs and restaurants within 1 mile.

Step to entrance. Ground floor: Living/dining room with wooden floor. Kitchen. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 1 double, 2 single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

This was our 2nd stay at Coastguards and we weren’t disappointed. Everything perfect....even the weather. We did notice it was for sale and hope it’s still going to be available for holidays and kept to the same standards as Olga delivered. Just a shame I can’t buy it! 😂

A lovely cottage in a great location. The cottage was spotlessly clean and in excellent decorative order with most of the bits and bobs you need in a cottage holiday. The owner, Olga, is most helpful and makes every effort to ensure that all is as it should be, even providing home made cakes, a pint of milk and a bottle wine on arrival! The fresh flowers were also a nice touch and much appreciated, as was a lighter weight duvet to change for the 10 tog when summer arrived suddenly. Although there isn't a nearby pub serving bar meals in the evening, a local cafe is an excellent venue for breakfast, coffee and lunch. Good bar meals are available within a short drive. We were most surprised to discover just how dog friendly the IOW is, not just tolerating the furry family member but actively welcoming him into virtually all venues. This cottage is an excellent base to visit the IOW, close to the beach and not far from the ferry at Yarmouth. We would certainly like to come again.

This was probably the best cottage we have stayed at over many years. I have only marked it down slightly because the bathroom was not as clean as we would have liked and it was an expensive cottage to rent, however, the cottage was well stocked with everything one would need, so no need to bring house and home away with you. The lounge was comfortable and also the bed. The owner was delightful and very concerned that everything was as it should be. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Beautifully decorated cosy cottage. Very well equipped with lovely towels & bed linen. Nice quiet location with pubs, bars & restaurants within a short walk or drive. Secure gardens front & rear for our small dog. Dog friendly walks on beach, Tennyson Down or Afton Marsh. Highly recommended.

Beautiful cottage in an excellent location. Building works nearby at the moment but they are only from 8am to around 4pm. It is expensive but very nice. Owner is lovely & very thoughtful also.
