Carsethorn is steeped in history, John Paul Jones, known as ’The Father of the American Navy’, was born just a mile away and frequented the village as a young man.
Carsethorn is a tranquil and peaceful village where you will hear nothing more than the lapping of the waves. Set in the heart of this beautiful coastal area of Dumfries and Galloway it is an ideal base to explore the area. Come back to Coastguard’s Cottage after a day exploring and relax in the cottage or stroll to the delightful village pub.
Dumfries and Galloway has much to offer from walking and cycling to fishing, mountain biking and golf, or enjoy a day exploring the many beautiful beaches along the Solway Coast. Try the region’s fantastic 9 and 18 hole golf courses set amid stunning scenery, none more so than the world famous links course at Southerness a 5-minute drive along the coast.
Warmed by the Gulf Stream there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust). Further afield the Galloway Forest Park not only has some stunning scenery but is also the UK’s first Dark Sky Park where over 7000 stars and planets are visible with the naked eye.
