This former coastguard’s cottage is the perfect family escape situated just a short walk from the beach at Freshwater Bay.

Built in the 1860s this renovated former coastguards’ cottage is near the end of a quiet, tranquil lane only 150 yards from the beach. In the Victorian era the coastguard station formed a front line against smuggling and provided assistance to shipwrecked sailors. Today it is an ideal base for walking, a family holiday, or a peaceful hideaway from hectic lives at any time of the year. For the energetic there’s a hearty walk on nearby Tennyson Down to the Needles, or for those wanting a gentle stroll there’s Freshwater Bay where you can enjoy the sea breeze. West Wight is renowned for its scenic coastline and beaches; Compton, Brook, Alum Bay, Totland and Colwell Bay. Ideal for exploring whether looking for fossils or dinosaur footprints, building castles or enjoying the surf there is something for everyone. Shop 700 yards and pub within 1½ miles.

Ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 1 double, 2 single (4ft). Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Stereo/CD/MP3 connection. Gas range. Microwave. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Enclosed lawned front and rear gardens with patio, terrace, sitting-out area and furniture. Parking (1 car). Welcome pack. No smoking.

Lovely cottage in a great location. Made very welcome by Caroline the owners representative. Great selection of local walks and pubs, and only 100m from Freshwater Bay

A lovely cottage in a great location with easy access to the beaches and the wonderful walks of south west IOW. Also very convenient for meeting up with family who live in Freshwater.

Absolutely delighted with our holiday. The cottage was wonderful, we had the morning sunshine in the front of the cottage with a lovely enclosed garden with lawn and fruit trees, and in the evening, sunshine in the back garden, again completely enclosed with lawn and patio area. The Owner provided "extras" beyond our expectations, the kitchen range was fabulous and kitchen well-equipped. The sitting room was lovely with good quality TV DVD and radio CD player and lots of local interest books to read. The sofa and arm chairs were very comfortable. Plenty of hot water always and the bathroom shower was excellent. The beds were so comfy that we all slept well being in such a peaceful location. Finally, being only a few metres from the beach what more could one want? Would highly recommend Coastguard Cottage to all, who will leave feeling 100 per cent better than on arrival.

A gorgeous cottage in a glorious location. The cottage itself is extremely well equipped - one of the nicest we ve stayed in - and the little touches like homemade marmalade in the welcome pack show how much the owners care about visitors having a great holiday. With both the Freshwater Way and the beach just steps from the front door, as well as a wonderful cafe, the Piano, and real ale pub, the Red Lion within a miles walk, we had a fabulous break.
