Description

Grade II listed cottage in a waterside setting, this magical dwelling encapsulates all that is great about the English holiday.

This delightful end of terrace former coastguard cottage overlooks the tidal inlet of Waterhead Creek, alongside which a 5-minute walk brings you to the pretty riverside village of Kingswear. Here there are shops, pubs and regular car and passenger ferries to Dartmouth. The cottage is presented to a very high standard, is well-equipped, has Wi-Fi internet access and communal parking. There are beautiful views overlooking the garden and Kingswear from the double bedroom on the top floor whilst the master bedroom overlooks Waterhead Creek. There is a useful lobby on the ground floor where you can store boots, coats and luggage, you can also access the rear courtyard from here. The views were amazing and location great for getting over to Dartmouth and buses to Paignton and Brixham really convenient which is why we picked this cottage. Cottage very warm - storage heating worked very well. Cottage was ok for two people but not enough room in living room for more. Sofa and chair were very uncomfortable and would not have been sufficient for five people which this cottage sleeps. TV missing in the double bedroom on first floor and absolutely no signal for TV on 2nd floor. Freeview signal generally was very poor, even in living room, so limited number of TV channels. Booster boxes needed or Freesat dish. Did not realise next door property had access through back courtyard which could have proved embarrassing as there are no curtains to the kitchen window. As courtyard gets very little sun at times of year, care must be taken on slippery steps to shed for washing machine.

We enjoyed our week in Kingswear, fantastic views, quiet location, comfortable cottage, easy access to the larger town of Dartmouth. Our main issue is the cottage is small, which was fine for two of us but could be difficult to accommodate 5 people as there is only one small bathroom and the single bedroom is a passageway to the second bedroom.

We really enjoyed our stay at Coastguard Cottage: it is beautifully situated, with a great view of the estuary. The cottage has all the amenities you expect, and it's great walking area as well.

Beautiful location with fantastic views of Dartmouth . Very well maintained cottage. Idyllic and extremely tranquil setting. We had three kids and they loved it. Very good WI-FI. The only downside is the lack of comfortable seating, it wasn't adequate considering the cost of a week in August there (this had been bought up with previous residents in the visitor book ). I would also include the single bedroom mattress - really not good enough. But really do not let this put you off. It's a fantastic property in which I would recommend to anybody.

Parking is a hassle in an automatic car, need to reverse into narrow uphill parking plot whilst very gravelly between road and steep incline to parking plot!
