Description

This characterful, Grade II listed cottage, once owned by an 18th-century coachman, is perfect for families wanting to explore East Yorkshire.

This delightful semi-detached, Grade II listed cottage, set in the heart of the quaint Wolds village of Nafferton, was once owned by a former 18th-century coachman. On renovation, care was taken to retain the character and charm in this cosy cottage, and there are still original features in every room. Visitors can enjoy curling up by the roaring multi-fuel burner or sitting out in the sunny courtyard. The quirky stairs are steep and winding, and lead to two cheerful bedrooms with excellent quality beds.
Nafferton village boasts many amenities for a village of its size, including a railway station, well-stocked convenience store, a fish and chip shop and three pubs serving anything from traditional bar meals to Greek food. The Mere was once a mill pond and is now the focal point of the village, a designated conservation area. The main railway line from Hull to Scarborough still runs through the village, and is just a short walk from the cottage. Here visitors can take a train to Driffield, Hull, Bridlington and Scarborough, an easy and relaxing way to explore the area. Driffield is approximately 3 miles away, a bustling town with supermarkets, swimming pool and restaurants.
Walkers and cyclists can enjoy numerous trails from the doorstep and there is a bike store provided in the cottage courtyard. The surrounding Yorkshire Wolds countryside inspired the famous Hockney paintings, and a scenic drive through the chalk landscapes leads to the Heritage coastline and the North York Moors. Visit the stately homes at Burton Agnes, Sledmere and Sewerby Hall and enjoy a day out in Beverley, 19 miles, a bustling market town packed with historical buildings, an awe-inspiring minster and racecourse. Hull and The Deep aquarium and the ancient walled city of York are both within an hour’s drive. Driffield, Bridlington and Scarborough have golf courses and are all well served by buses, as is Hull. Beach 7 miles. Shop 100 yards, pub 300 yards and restaurant 500 yards.

We really enjoyed our stay. Having a key safe was ideal. The cottage was comfy and cosy, especially with the log burner lit. Kath was very thoughtful in leaving some provisions and also a bottle of prosecco, chocolates and scones with jam and clotted cream. We weren't sure if we were in Nafferton or Neverland. We had a fabulous day walking around Flamborough head and Danes dyke. Altogether a super break and highly recommended. Thanks

Good value, well located, very friendly welcome. Would recommend for exploring York, Scarborough and Hull. Lovely to find cakes, wine, flowers and milk to greet us.
