In the local area there is lots to do for all ages. Salisbury has Britain’s tallest spire, Europe’s oldest clock and one of the original (and best preserved) copies of the Magna Carta. Salisbury Cathedral, with its ornate beauty, draws people in from all around the world. There are various events within the cathedral, including ‘Darkness into Light’, musical services, theatre productions and singing by the choir. Salisbury is a lively, vibrant city with a range of shops, arts, crafts and entertainment, and has a twice weekly charter market. There are also lots of eateries, inns and leisure amenities. The train station is about a 15 minutes’ walk, for those who prefer a car-free holiday, and there are tour buses to Stonehenge and other local attractions. Visit Old Sarum, an early settlement and an English Heritage Site, and Old Wardour Castle, which is a 14th-century structure set in gardens besides a lake. Within easy driving distance are Stonehenge, Monkey World, The Tank Museum, scenic walks along the Avebury Rings, the Fovant Badges (regimental badges carved into the chalk hills) and the Museum of Army Flying. The New Forest National Park and various beaches including Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, are about 45 minutes’ drive away. Beach 30 miles. Shop ¼ mile, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Very nice cottage, well maintained, comfortable and clean. It's a 20 minute walk to the centre of town, which is fine when it's not raining! It's on a quiet back street, but there is nothing in the immediate area (shops etc).

Very comfortable and clean house, with really comfy beds. Constructively, there was not enough sofa space for 6 people. There was no welcome pack, not even salt/pepper or a tea bag. This may be due to covid, but we have stayed in accommodation post covid that have supplied virtually everything you could think of needing. There were only 8 plates and six forks for 6 people and as only 7 dishwasher tablets had been supplied we often ran out and had to hand-wash. First World problems I know but a but more cutlery and crockery would be useful. Loads of mugs by the way and the host was really friendly and accomodating
