Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

This barn conversion lies close to many beaches and cycle trails, making it the perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a great area to explore.

This spacious barn conversion lies in a rural setting adjacent to a farm, just outside the old market town of St Austell and close to Charlestown, it provides a perfect spot to enjoy Cornwall. The house has a large lawned garden, which is ideal for games, picnics and barbecues. Chy Rond, which is Cornish for ‘round house’, was once the granary for the farm, and the living room, which is round, is believed to be where the donkey used to power the mill stone, to grind the wheat.
There are many excellent beaches nearby, and the beaches of Pentewan, Portmellon and Carlyon Bay are all easily accessible. The Pentewan Trail, a multi-use trail with bike hire, is very close by, where you can cycle down to Pentewan beach and village to spend a day on the golden sands. The trail links up to many cycling trails that provide an alternative route to one of Cornwall’s and the country’s famous tourist attractions, the Eden Project. The cycle path joins a network of trails right into the heart of Cornwall’s historic china clay area.
A short journey from Chy Rond will bring you to one of Cornwall’s best and most dramatic gardens, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, where you can admire the Italianate garden and explore the ‘Jungle’ garden. The pretty village of Mevagissey, with its working harbour and narrow streets that lead to the quayside, is well worth a visit. With local pubs, bars and restaurants, this quaint little traditional fishing village has sea fishing trips and a ferry to Fowey across St Austell Bay. The sea faring town of Fowey with its Royal Regatta and literary festival is also easily reached and a great day.
Other attractions in the area are Caerhays Castle and garden, a vineyard, the shipwreck and heritage centre at nearby Charlestown, which is home to tall sailing ships and is a regular set used for film and TV programmes. Nearby, in St Austell, there are local shops, bowling, swimming pools, a cinema and leisure facilities. Beach ¾ mile. Shop ½ mile, pub 1 mile and restaurant ¾ mile.

Very nice house with plenty of space. Loved the homely touches especially all the books and games. Garden was massive, the kids really enjoyed playing in it. Good location, very peaceful but just a few minutes drive from a large Asda if you need anything. Gorgeous beaches close by especially Porthpean. Eden Project just a short drive away, well worth a visit. An extremely relaxing holiday.

We had a very pleasant week in Chy Rond and for the most part found it well equipped. It was exceptionally clean and the beds were comfy. High quality appliances by Miele were appreciated and the location was very quiet whilst being very close to St Austell and major roads to other towns. We had a few issues which perhaps the owners could take on board for the future: The house was very cold on arrival and we found the heating set on 17 degrees. We subsequently had to bleed all the radiators and find the boiler inlet and taps to repressurise the boiler (my father-in-law is very adept at such matters!). Having two children under 5 this was something we could have done without when it was very cold weather as we struggled to warm their rooms enough the first night. There was only enough cutlery for one sitting for 6 which meant after breakfast we had to wash it ready for dinner instead of put in the dishwasher as we would at home. Small problem just niggly really! Jacuzzi bath made a noise but didn't do anything - hopefully this can be resolved but it wasn't advertised so not missed. Oh and upstairs windows were left unlocked which maybe could be checked by cleaners as our youngest managed to open one before we realised and stopped him climbing out!! The cooker needs levelling also it's really on the wonk! Simples things to change that could make a wonderful house absolutely incredible. Not moaning but if not pointed out you can't address them. We loved the fact there were a lot of personal decorative items and games thousands of books etc as it felt like a home not just a house. Ample parking too and using the rear access made it feel more private. So much space in this house which the boys loved. Loved the wood burner too in the cold evenings. Well done to the owners for their obvious hard work to get this house to a high standard and we hope you will enjoy further Indian adventures in the future! Would we return? Yes we certainly would. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your helpful comments, all of which we will take on board. I'm sorry about the problems you had with the heating system. We've taken steps to try and ensure that future guests dont have the same problems. We're getting extra cutlery and will try to level the oven - the problem is that the whole of Cornwall is slightly on the wonk. Our adventures continue. If you choose to visit Chy Rond again, and we hope that you will, maybe there will be new curiosities from Brazil. We are glad that you enjoyed your holiday.
