Brummel Barn can sleep up to 12 guests, is dog friendly and located in the beautiful Bowcombe Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated between Newport and Shorwell on the Isle of Wight, just 4 miles from the islands South Coast, Brummel Barn is one of two properties available to rent at Cheverton Farm. The other property on-site, Cheverton Farm Cottage (ref PBBE), sleeps 6. When combined the two properties can accommodate up to 18 guests. Cheverton Farm specialises in rearing the highest quality lamb and beef as well as arable crops. The farm stretches across a steep valley with natural woodland, fields and chalk downland, and from the top of the downs above the farm there are exceptional panoramic views to behold right across the Island.

Brummell Barn is one of the original outbuildings to Cheverton Farmhouse, the owners 18th-century home, and has been converted to provide highly individual and spacious accommodation. Boasting a wealth of interesting and original features, the barn has a splendid galleried sitting room with a beamed, vaulted ceiling. You can enjoy lovely views over the surrounding countryside from its south-facing window, whilst the west-facing windows overlook the farmyard. The barn also has its own enclosed terrace with garden furniture, barbecue and Wendy house. With access to 730 acres of meadow and arable land which adjoins a forest and downland walking trails, visitors can also enjoy shared use of a children’s play area, games room with table tennis and air hockey, fitness room and a separate room with full-size billiard/snooker table (for adults) and darts, as well as use of the owner’s indoor heated swimming pool. With dogs, ducks, chickens, sheep and cattle to visit, children will enjoy watching the varied farming activities (lambing in April). A perfect base for a family holiday, offering all the peace and quiet of the countryside combined with bathing beaches and a mild sunny climate.

Shorwell, with its thatched stone cottages and Jacobean houses is 1 mile away, while all the islands popular seaside resorts are easily reached by a circular coastal road. Sandown and Shanklin, on the east side, have fine sandy beaches and Ventnor, at the southern tip, with its Botanic Gardens, is huddled between steep, wooded cliffs. The farmhouse is a registered mountain bike centre for the Isle of Wight, there is an approximately 3-mile cross country track that offers riders of all abilities a challenging and enjoyable ride through the woods and downland at Cheverton Farm. From a tight twisty single track, jumps and technical descents, to open chalkland trails with stunning views. It also offers a start to longer rides via the Worsley Trail that runs through the farm adjacent to the cycle track. Para-gliding, riding and golf can also be arranged (at cost). Shop and pub serving food 1 mile.

The perfect holiday location for a large group. Expectations for a farm location weren't that high but absolute class facilities and friendly hosts. Very happy!

Fantastic place to stay for a long weekend with a group of friends. The barn was equipped with everything you could need for children (cots, high chairs, crockery, loads of toys, outdoor play equipment, swimming pool) - the kids had a fantastic time and would have been happy to never leave! We cooked for us all easily in the kitchen. No need to bring anything from home. So many things to do on the site we struggled to fit it all in. Great location to visit anywhere on the Island. We could not recommend it enough and hope to be back.

The Barn was just great and Claudia was amazing. She is a truly host that will do everything to make your stay perfect. We were a large group with children booking both of the properties at the farm for a long week end. We couldn't ask for more. The properties are well catered for families, gates at the stairs, closed terrace at the front and the read of the home, trolley, games and mini truck for children to play. For the adults as well you have a very well equipped kitchen, outside bbq, pool, table tennis, snooker table. The farm is very welcome and offer you and your family the chance to see cow, pigs, chickens and lamb. it also has a great bike tracking and if you love walking, here you have plenty of lovely walks in the nature. We loved the place! it's nice and welcoming in all the aspects and Claudia was just a super Host! We are already planning next year. If you are a large group of friends or families together, this is the place you want to stay at the Isle of Wight. Definitely recommended!

We had a great family holiday at Brummell Barn. Our children and grand children spent a lot of time on their mountain bikes as there is an excellent mountain biking centre at the farm as well as tracks for general cycling. Also its a good area for walking. Plenty of animals to see and the owners were more than happy to take us around the farm. The swimming pool was used by some of our group each day.

Spent a fabulous weekend here with 7 friends. The cottage is perfect for a big group with a large kitchen space and table and alounge with many comfortable sofas. We all agreed it felt very homely and wouldn't hesitate to return. The pool was wonderful and not cold even on a miserable day. The beds were comfy and a good distribution of bedrooms for a large group. We did have concerns over the toilets not flushing particularly well and very little water pressure in all but one of the showers and some sharp kitchen knives would be useful to go with the very well equipped kitchen but none of that detracted from a fabulous cottage in a great location. Paddy was very welcoming and more than happy to answer any questions we had. Just a shame we didn't get to explore much of the working farm due to time constraints and the weather. We will definitely be back!

The cottage was ok although we did have extra visitors of mice it is on a farm so probably expected. The barn conversion is old the furniture was very worn in the kitchen and the gym room was not as advertised. But we were there for a weekend it was what it was the farmer and his wife very were nice and we wouldn't upset them by complaining to them although we did say about the mice when leaving. The cleanliness of the place was very dusty one of the quilt covers had a small amount of blood on it and the toilet in the lower area of the house was cracked at the base and broken and the shower in the same room was mildew and rusty shelves in the shower. The pool was cold as it is heated by solar. We were only there for the long weekend it didn't impair our stay the couple were lovely and the farm activities tractors etc were great.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for leaving a constructive review. Since your visit considerable improvements have been made by the new management team to upgrade the property including new linen, furniture, bedding, gym equipment and technology. We would also like to reassure future guests that any unwanted small furry visitors have been professionally evicted! We sincerely apologise for any disappointment you experienced and hope you will make a return visit to enjoy our newly refurbished property with the pool at the usual temperature of 28 degrees.
