Brummel Barn can sleep up to 12 guests, is dog friendly and located in the beautiful Bowcombe Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated between Newport and Shorwell on the Isle of Wight, just 4 miles from the islands South Coast, Brummel Barn is one of two properties available to rent at Cheverton Farm. The other property on-site, Cheverton Farm Cottage (ref PBBE), sleeps 6. When combined the two properties can accommodate up to 18 guests. Cheverton Farm specialises in rearing the highest quality lamb and beef as well as arable crops. The farm stretches across a steep valley with natural woodland, fields and chalk downland, and from the top of the downs above the farm there are exceptional panoramic views to behold right across the Island.

Brummell Barn is one of the original outbuildings to Cheverton Farmhouse, the owners 18th-century home, and has been converted to provide highly individual and spacious accommodation. Boasting a wealth of interesting and original features, the barn has a splendid galleried sitting room with a beamed, vaulted ceiling. You can enjoy lovely views over the surrounding countryside from its south-facing window, whilst the west-facing windows overlook the farmyard. The barn also has its own enclosed terrace with garden furniture, barbecue and Wendy house. With access to 730 acres of meadow and arable land which adjoins a forest and downland walking trails, visitors can also enjoy shared use of a children’s play area, games room with table tennis and air hockey, fitness room and a separate room with full-size billiard/snooker table (for adults) and darts, as well as use of the owner’s indoor heated swimming pool. With dogs, ducks, chickens, sheep and cattle to visit, children will enjoy watching the varied farming activities (lambing in April). A perfect base for a family holiday, offering all the peace and quiet of the countryside combined with bathing beaches and a mild sunny climate.

Shorwell, with its thatched stone cottages and Jacobean houses is 1 mile away, while all the islands popular seaside resorts are easily reached by a circular coastal road. Sandown and Shanklin, on the east side, have fine sandy beaches and Ventnor, at the southern tip, with its Botanic Gardens, is huddled between steep, wooded cliffs. The farmhouse is a registered mountain bike centre for the Isle of Wight, there is an approximately 3-mile cross country track that offers riders of all abilities a challenging and enjoyable ride through the woods and downland at Cheverton Farm. From a tight twisty single track, jumps and technical descents, to open chalkland trails with stunning views. It also offers a start to longer rides via the Worsley Trail that runs through the farm adjacent to the cycle track. Para-gliding, riding and golf can also be arranged (at cost). Shop and pub serving food 1 mile.

Beautiful, spacious, warm and clean barn. Claudia and family were lovely and genuinely cared that we had a good time. Claudia brought eggs , milk and homemade cookies for us and her husband took my son and grandchildren for an exciting drive around the fields to see the sheep which they loved. The weather was not good but did not spoil our weekend. Would love to return in warmer weather.

Best place I have stayed on the Isle of Wight by far! Had the most amazing couple of days at Cheverton Farm. 9 of us stayed for my wife’s birthday and we had a fantastic time. Claudia greeted us when we arrived and was really helpful prior to arrival with helpful messages for the location and also where we could pick up things at the closest shops. The whole farm is amazing and there is so much to do that you can enjoy yourself without leaving the house. The swimming pool was fantastic, the snooker table out of this world and also got a game of table tennis in. We had a look around the farm seeing a few of the animals they have and also the walks you can go on are amazing. On to the house itself and all I can say is that the pictures don’t do it justice how wonderful and spacious the 5 bedroom house is. The upstairs lounge area comfortably seated 9 of us and was lovely and cosy. 2 of the bedrooms has enough suite showers which were great and the other bedrooms were very spacious with plenty of room for more. The kitchen area was great for meals and the kitchen itself was very well equipped and with the amenities that Claudia provides, it makes cooking everything easy. If you are looking for a great stay in a location not that far from Newport and the coast then this is the place for you! We know next time we come back we will be contacting Claudia to book our stay!

It was the perfect place for a large group family holiday, nine adults two children under four plus dog. It seemed to us everything had been thought of especially in the in and out door toy department for the kids by the very friendly hosts who were happy to show the kids around the farm. The weather was a bit hit and miss but with easy access 10 to 15 minutes to the beautiful Military Road coast line or the same to Newport, the on site in door swimming pool, full size snooker table, darts tennis table there was always something to do. Highly recommended by us.

We stayed for the weekend and from start to finish we were made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We opted to have a BBQ one evening and took advantage of some of the meats on offer from the farm. All I can say is wow. The kids (5,9) loved the pool and also having access to the play area and farm animals. Will definitely stay there again.

Even better than expected! Spotless, very well equipped. Swimming pool was wonderful. Good access to island. Superb steak bought at the farm. All three family groups took some home as well! An excellent week even though some days were rainy.

Amazing location. Lovely big barn. Lots of spiders, so not for the faint hearted. Kitchen very well equipped. Shame the swimming pool is time slotted. Would have been happy to share with other families. The only complaint would be the children's play swing which was broken and the climbing frame which was covered in bird poo.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you very much for your comments, and we are so glad that you and all your family enjoyed your stay in the barn. We are sorry that you encountered spiders but every endeavour is made to remove them before every new party of guests. However, they have a habit of hiding in old buildings which is difficult to guard against. Had you mentioned that it was a problem during your stay, then we would have been happy to do a mid-week sweep of the property. This also applies to problems with the climbing frame, which we would have been very happy to rectify immediately. We have since replaced the toddler swing, and have taken steps to prevent birds from perching above it. We hope that you enjoyed your trips around the farm in the buggy with our shepherd and all the other farm facilities, including the pool, were to your satisfaction and we apologise for any disappointment you may have experienced.

The perfect holiday location for a large group. Expectations for a farm location weren't that high but absolute class facilities and friendly hosts. Very happy!
