Lovely place friendly helpful owner. I want to leave constructive feedback such as downstairs toilet advertised and needed as a minimum requirement for us as our gran aged 94 has some mobility problems. Far too small. Non standard door won’t fit a walking frame. Useless. Some areas are in need of a little TLC. Whilst clean it could do with a professional deep clean. Please don’t be offended, have a look behind the fire in Large lounge and then similar places. Local pub (Miners) very welcoming and friendly. I would advise visitors join in make an effort don’t hide away at the far end of the bar. You will find the owners and locals a fantastic friendly and helpful bunch.

We have stayed at this cottage before because it suits our large family group. ranging from 5 years to 85 years old. The chapel is very spacious with various bedroom lay outs. a second lounge/tv room is also helpful. With 2 large dining tables we were able to eat together. The chapel is very well equipped with ample of everything for your stay. The utility room for storage and the white appliances is ideal for our dogs to sleep. It has an enclosed garden which suits the children to play football in. also on the plus side is ample parking, There was a welcoming bottle of wine, chocolates and flowers on our arrival. The owner gave us a friendly greeting too. Our grandchildren loved their time there and already asking about a stay next year

This is the first time I have left a negative review of a holiday property, but what we found impacted quite a lot.A quirky cottage , well equipped with furniture and kitchen goods, within reach of lots of tourist destinations, easy distance of a co-op for shopping, but spoilt by very poor, sleep depriving mattresses on the beds in the two top rooms. Neither of the two people using them had a even a reasonable night's sleep, and that adds up over a week. The other mattresses were not the comfiest, but usable. 'Good ' beds are a basic requisite. The top floor 'bathroom' is a shower that opens directly onto the corridor between the two bedrooms, with no drying area or room for clothes, except the corridor. This meant that our two youngest[adult] children had to negotiate! The toilet[in a cupboard] is very restricted as to leg room. I could barely fit and am only 5'4'', with short legs. As our little ones are only 7,4 and 2, there was no way that they could sleep alone up the steep staircase, hence the adults at the top of the house. The black out blinds in most rooms are very effective, but the en-suite room has none on one wall due ,I surmise ,to the diamond shaped windows. Not good for those using the cot, or small child's bed positioned in there. We packed the spaces with empty bags to give some semblance of darkness for our 2 year old.The photographs are VERY flattering! It does not stand alone in wide open countryside, and the angle the photo is taken at makes the garden look a great deal bigger than it is.The property fronts a busy main A road[not in itself a problem, as there is a good gate to secure the yard/garden], but the loose metal covers on manholes immediately outside the property are, since they are constantly clanking loudly as traffic go over them at all hours. It is particularly noticeable if you dare to open a window. I do realise that this is NOT the owners problem, but it does make the road very noisy. The house is not 'sole' ownership, but shared with the friendly , helpful mother of the owner, but the partition of her front yard from yours is very unsightly indeed, and she seemed anxious about the reaction of one of her dogs to the children.. Anything else for future bookers? Keep an eye on the tumble drier, it doesn't always switch off, and why the legions of crockery? The extra dresser full in the kitchen is unneccessary and takes away room if you have a big party as we were, especially as there are two in the main lounge and another two elsewhere. I am sorry if I sound so negative, but we have always been very impressed by properties we have used in our yearly trip away en famille, and were disappointed. If the description and photo were a little more honest, and if the beds were sorted, this would be a much better property.

From the initial greeting from the owner to our departure, we all had a marvellous stay here in Chapel House. It is a good sized accommodation with plenty of parking and easily accessed. We were a family group of 9 and all had plenty of space to sleep and move around. The garden was a good size although the weather meant we were unable to use it much. As we cooked in most evenings, we would have liked sharper knives, more wine glasses with short stems that fitted into the dishwasher, more half-pint sized glasses for the children and larger mugs for tea and coffee. Other than that we had more than enough of what we required. The cottage is very well equipped.

A good location that allowed relative traffic free access to the Lake District from the north with the added attraction that Long Distance Cycling routes were within reach. WiFi was rather intermittent.
