A romantic hideaway with spectacular views over Cardigan Bay, perfect for that peaceful break.

Commanding spectacular views over Cardigan Bay, these four holiday properties enjoy an elevated position nestled beside a mountain stream, accessed by a steep shared drive. Woodland Roost (ref WN72) is a detached hideaway located within a woodland garden and Cedar Rest (ref WN82) and Coastal Retreat (ref 28519) are delightful wings of the owners’ 16th-century hillside farmhouse. Ceilwart Cottage (ref WN73) is situated in a beautiful, terraced garden with patio, BBQ and patio furniture, and has strong green credentials with its solar panels for hot water, a ground source heat pump for the comfortable central heating and cosy sheep’s’ wool insulation, not forgetting the triple glazed windows and the UV filtered natural spring water. They all overlook the owners’ field, and are only a mile away from the town of Barmouth, with its choice of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. A steep walk across the road takes you to the promenade and a beautiful sandy beach. Close by are all the amenities of the Snowdonia National Park, Harlech with its castle and golf course, Portmeirion, and steam trains run from Porthmadog. They are secluded but not isolated, with horse riding, fishing and mountain bike centres within an easy drive. Beach 1¼ miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants 1 mile.

I visit Barmouth on a regular basis but self catering accommodation in town can be pricey and most likely won't have parking. Cedar rest is just outside town with a signposted footpath at the bottom of the drive that takes you down to the promenade. From there it's a very pleasant 10 minute walk along the seafront into town. The drive is very steep but worth it for the fabulous views. There is ample parking next to the cottages. I have stayed in one of the owners other cottages before and as I was due to stay during the terrible storms wasn't sure how comfortable this semi isolated cottage would be, however, as always there was a warm welcome on arrival and an even warmer welcome when I got into the cottage, it was toasty warm! The lounge was pleasant with a comfortable sofa and a large screen TV. It could have done with a DVD player but I took my own. The kitchen was very nice and well equipped with everything you could need for the week and there was even a washing machine that came in very handy after long walks in the mud and snow! Upstairs the bedroom was a very good size, bright and cheerful with superb sea views. I found the bed a little too soft but that is my personal preference. The bedding was fresh and clean along with the ample amount of towels. The en suite bathroom was huge with a spa bath and large shower. There was always plenty of hot water. All in all I would highly recommend and will certainly book here next time.

I enjoyed staying at Cedar rest very much. I found it hard to get a phone signal due to the mountains but thats a minor I suppose. Cedar rest is perfect for a quiet relaxing break to unwind from the hustle and bustle of life. It is a truly lovely and picturesque place to stay and would like to stay again.

We booked Cedar rest on the first write up which said it had a woodburner , it didn't not even an imitation one, nor did it have the hot tub. We would have appreciated notification of the changes as they were made and not left to find them on arrival.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. The property has never had a hot tub or woodburner and therefore has never been advertised, so we can only assume this guest had confused ours with another property.

Can't fault the place other than it was a bit further out than we would have liked and steep climb up the drive was a bit daunting but good taxi service helped as bus service infrequent and finishes at 7pm which is useless .. It was clean and tidy with great sitting out area . some info on recycling and cooker would be helpful . Lady running the cottage was very good and friendly .
