Catherine Cottage occupies an idyllic position on the East Neuk of Fife coast in the unique, picturesque village of Cellardyke. There are spectacular views towards the Isle of May, Berwick Law and the Bass Rock from all the main rooms. From the comfort of breakfast in bed, guests can enjoy the ever changing colours and moods of the sea and sky. Watch the sunrise, the fishing boats returning to harbour or emptying the creels, and sometimes a pod of dolphins leaping past. Whales and seals also inhabit these waters. Catherine Cottage is a traditional terraced fisherman’s cottage. It benefits from a south facing walled garden with a gate that leads straight on to the shore. It has a well-established flower and herb garden offering seasonal variety, with an area of lawn and places to sit and enjoy peace and refreshment.
A short stroll brings you to the adjoining town of Anstruther, which has a good selection of local shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. The Fife Coastal Path runs along the road through the village and leads in either direction to the delights of secluded coves, little fishing villages, and white sandy beaches. The Millennium Cycle Way runs through central Fife, with miles of quiet country roads, disused railways and forest tracks to explore. There are daily ferries and boat trips leaving from Anstruther between April and September that take you to the Isle of May, which is a National Nature Reserve. It is home to colonies of sea birds including puffins and the surrounding waters are the habitat of seal colonies. Historic St Andrews is 10 miles away and has a host of golf courses, boutique shops, and a wide range of bars and restaurants. In Cellardyke there is a shop within 500 yards, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
