Description

A cosy cottage with a sea view, this property is just 250 yards from a sandy beach and within easy reach of many attractions.

Only a 250-yard walk from the beautiful sandy beach of Whitesand Bay, this charming little row of three delightful and comfortably furnished holiday cottages commands magnificent views over the bay and Sennen Cove. On a quiet lane leading only to the cliffs, they have been very tastefully converted from a spacious Victorian house and are stunningly set in several acres of shared natural grounds; home to a wonderful variety of wildlife which can easily be seen from the steep beach path and the cottages themselves.
The beach at Whitesand is magnificent; a splendid mile of sand which has been awarded Blue Flag status and is excellent for surfing (lifeguards operate throughout the summer, and there is also a ban on dogs from 1st May to 30th September. Dogs are permitted year round on nearby Gwenver Beach). Sennen Cove (½ mile) is a picturesque little fishing village looking out over the bay. It offers shops, pub, restaurants – even a lifeboat station – all within walking distance. There are some beautiful walks along the coast towards Cape Cornwall in one direction, and beyond Land’s End in the other.
The famous outdoor Minack Theatre is only 3 miles away and Penzance (7 miles) boasts a mainline station, shops, inns, swimming-pool, sailing and tennis. There is a golf course at St Just (4 miles) and facilities for squash and badminton are available locally. Picturesque St Ives (a renowned haunt of artists) is 15 miles away along the spectacular north coast.
The Carn Towan cottages are perfectly positioned for enjoying a Cornish holiday – and are cosily heated throughout, with double glazing, making them ideal for all-year-round breaks. Shops ½ mile.

A lovely romantic cottage for two set between Bishop Rock and Sevenstones. Entrance into fully fitted kitchen with breakfast area. Living/dining room with sea view. Cloakroom with toilet. First floor: Pretty double bedroom with sea view, en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Radiant fire. Shared garden with furniture.

We re booked Longships after a lovely holiday last year, but the owner phoned to say there was something wrong with the electrics, and would we mind staying at Bishops Rock instead, it was next door to Longships so we agreed. It had a wood/coal burner in the living room and the information was that if we wanted more we would have to buy it. I was unhappy with that, we couldn't seem to warm up at all. There were old electric heaters on the walls upstairs which didn't warm the rooms up. We were freezing and left a day early because of this. I contacted the owner and explained and stressed how cold we were there, and asked him if he ever stayed there. There was also damp on a couple of walls, and EVERYTHING had to be washed when we got home because of the overpowering smell of smoke. So no, we wouldn't go back in the winter, the view is amazing.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; When the power cut occurred it prevented us from cleaning and heating Longships but we felt the offer to upgrade to Bishop Rock cottage next door, which has the same view and a multi-fuel stove, would be welcome, especially in mid-winter. It seems you were unable to manage the stove which when used correctly gives off a good amount of heat and warms the room up nicely. This review and rating therefore applies to a different property (ref. GRL) and is in stark contrast to our other reviews.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable. The mattress is well past its best and the 2 inch foam topper did nothing to disguise the fact that the mattress dips and sags. I have already contacted the owner of the cottage to make him aware of this fact.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We have replaced the mattress, sorry that you found it uncomfortable.

Only issue was not enough hot water for a full bath and the plugs didn't function properly in the bath or bathroom sink

I just love this place, if I could I would move here. The view is to die for and it's so quiet. So cozy and clean with everything you need. Exactly the answer if you want a break away from everything. Top tip is to call at Penzance and go to Sainsbury, Tesco etc for all your food first

4th Visit we love this location and the views are exceptional. the cottage has everything you need but is a little tired now if it were not in the location it is the property would not receive such good reviews on balance it is lovely but it needs a new bed and despite recent work the shower is still a disappointment. if you can accept small inconsistencies and want to be in a beautiful location then there are few better. we will still return the plus outweigh the minus

The view from this cottage is simply stunning - not only from the living room but from the bedroom too (and even the bathroom if the door is open). One evening, from the living room, we watched the lifeboat going out and the cottage is perfectly positioned to see the sun setting too. It is a spacious cottage for two people and clean, cosy and very well and thoughtfully equipped. The costal path is only a few hundred feet away and there are various walking tracks from the door that we and our dog enjoyed.

When we approached the front door, we wondered what we had booked. The porch area didn't improve our opinion. The kitchen though a bit tired was very well equipped. Then we went into the lounge. Wow, the view, fantastic. The room was very comfortable and sitting outside, overlooking the sea, fantastic. The bedroom and bathroom were lovely, again with great view over the beach. The climb down to the beach and back was very steep, but you are very close to the beach. I believe the owner is going to replace the front but don't let first appearances put you off. It is a lovely place, we were able to take our dogs which is always a bonus, we would definately return.
