Description

Once used as clay drying facility and with walking and cycling on the Clay Trail is a must, St Austell is only 5 miles away.

Ideal base for exploring the countryside

Perfectly situated to enjoy the benefits of Cornwall, these two converted clay drying buildings provide an ideal base to explore the countryside. The properties were once used as a clay drying facility and are part of the rich China Clay heritage of Cornwall. Cycling and walking on the official ’Clay Trails’ within the area are a must, on which you can explore the area and even reach the world famous Eden Project. St Austell with its leisure centre is approx 5 miles as is the village of Charlestown, home to ’tall ships’ and a shipwreck heritage museum that houses artefacts from the Titanic. The fishing village of Padstow is easily accessible. Newquay, with its excellent surfing beaches is approximately 12 miles away, and close by is Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, ’Fifteen’. The ancient fishing port of Fowey is within 10 miles and was the home to ’Daphne Du Maurier’; it has many events throughout the year such as the Du Maurier Festival and the Fowey Royal Reggatta. Bodmin Moor is also close by and provides an excellent location for horse riding, walking and mountain biking. Good location to access most points of Cornwall. Very spacious house. The people were friendly. The let down was the cleanliness of the house mainly the kitchen. When we arrived there was food and grease left on plates, cutlery, trays. We spent 30 mins cleaning then gave up and got the staff to come and look and ended up taking 2/3 of the equipment away but said it looked clean to them. It was disgusting and is apparently checked before each first but clearly wasn’t. WiFi could only be accessed in laundry room which was fine to go to however it only worked 2 days. I wouldn’t recommend unless you don’t expect much.

We stayed over Christmas. Cottage was welcoming, and clean. No issues other than the electric seemed a bit expensive - £45 for 5 days! Would stay again though.

Great place to stay; Very clean and tidy; Plenty of space; Local area not the prettiest, but great location for driving to different locations in Cornwall, and only a few minutes drive from a lovely beach at Carlyon Bay.
