We spent four days at Camomile Cottage over New Year 17/18 and wanted a complete get away from it all few days. The village is lovely with plenty of walks locally and towns and historic attractions about a 20 min drive.

Despite the beauty of the village and the little cottage, the attitude of the owner manages to destroy it all. Not a welcoming environment.

The cottage is small but clean and tidy, very peaceful and was fairly described. It is located in a charming village near a river and walks. It is well situated as a base to explore North Yorkshire. We had a good holiday. The reason I can't give it a higher rating is that, compared to the many other cottages we have stayed in, this one was rather minimally equipped and unwelcoming. There is no entertainment for kids at all e.g. DVDs, games etc, minimal kitchenware e.g. cups, plates, glasses, no washing line or airer despite having a washing machine. Also, the cottage was personalised with religious imagery, which made it feel forbidding and unwelcoming, as though we had intruded into someone else's home rather than being welcome paid guests. Finally, we were irritated by the requirement to provide a £100 cheque deposit in case of damages. I have never encountered this before and I felt rather insulted.
