Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Description

This well-presented mid-terraced property provides the perfect base from which to explore both the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

With superb far-reaching valley views to the front and a wooded backdrop to the rear, this character mid-terraced stone cottage is one of a wonderfully unique row just outside of artsy Hebden Bridge. Access via a rough track, the setting is semi-rural, just a few hundred yards from the canal tow path, and the famous Pennine Way. It makes a perfect location for lovers of the great outdoors.
The market towns of Hebden Bridge, 2 miles, and Todmorden, 3 miles, are easily accessible providing a multitude of local amenities. Hebden Bridge, renowned for its bohemian identity, is home to artisan shops, galleries and organic pavement cafés. Todmorden also has a wealth of small independent shops, a famous market and is the start of The Paulinus Way – a long distance pilgrim and heritage route which reaches all the way to York.
The National Trust Hardcastle Crags, with more than 400 acres of un-spoilt woodland, is around 15 minutes away, and Haworth village, home of the Bronte sisters, around half an hour. A direct train from either Hebden Bridge or Todmorden will take you direct to the bright lights of Manchester and Leeds, and you can reach both the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks in around an hour. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Hebden Bridge and would return again. Calliswood was cosy, clean and well stocked for visitors. The location on the canal was perfect as was the West Yorkshire weather this enabled us to take lots of early morning and late evening walks with our two dogs....

Excellent, comfortable cottage with everything you could need - including torches. Access and parking a little tricky but not a big problem. Nice walk along the towpath to the pub and Hebden Bridge but we decided not to try it in the dark! Easy communication with owner.

Had an excellent week here. We did not need to use the car. We walked along the canal one way to co op and a canal side pub and the other way to Lidl in the next village. We found some excellent places to walk the dogs. Their favourites were Jumbone Hole (across the road) and Nutclough woods (up the road from Hebden Bridge town centre). Take your own bedding (2 double quilts one single bed) if your dogs sleep on beds (ours don't but we read this in the welcome pack at the house so it would have been too late) and some blankets to cover the settee and you then won't have to worry about a thing. We all had a really lovely time. The owners are nice from the limited arrival / departure text chat contact we had with them. There are leaflets for local things to do in a drawer a few games, a blue tooth speaker and some advice on local bits in a welcome pack. Only thing missing was info on the best takeaways but trip advisor helped with that. Pretty area and plenty to do. We were very lucky with the weather. There is a washing machine and portable clothes airer to help dry off clothes. We didn't need the coffee/dishcloths/washing up liquid we took as there looks to be a good system of use up and replace what is there. On arrival there was milk in the fridge and tea/coffee biscuits which was very thoughtful. Treats for the dogs too is there nothing they haven't thought of?! The sheets and towels smelt amazingly clean. Holiday tip - take bath sheets if you like big towels. There is no floor mop but we had flash wipes which were useful plus speak to someone about where you park it looks and feels like you are going wrong when you are not and our takeaway delivery was a disaster because he could not work out where to go. the rough narrow track to the parking area did nothing for our low to ground saloon suspension but it isn't the most sensible car to have with dogs anyway. Enjoy your trip and stay. We had a genuinely wonderful week.
