Firstly, a friendly owner and lovely views. However, the path up from the gate was very steep and should have had a handrail the whole length. There were two loose paving slabs, one of which we had to move out of the way to be sure my elderly parents were safe. The front door badly needed a coat of paint. The living room had comfortable furniture. The dining room was similarly comfortable. It was a shame that poorly presented items for sale overwhelmed both rooms. The kitchen was adequately equipped although only one light worked as the other bulb was inoperative and there was no toaster, which was very irritating as one appeared on the photo. One of the saucepans still had burnt food in it. The bedrooms were again, adequate and bed linen and towels were clean. Again, it was a shame that there was no effort to provide matching linen and towels. There was no "welcome pack" which was mentioned in the cottage description. The whole appearance of this cottage was of presentation on a shoe string with multiple signs exhorting saving and a lack of care in checking between occupants. This cottage compared unfavourably with many other cottages that we have been to over the years

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Lovely comments were left in the visitor book confirming everyone had a lovely time staying at Caleview. The views are unbelievably spectacular! The cottage is indeed warm, cosy and comfortable with a lot of TLC input to create a relaxing and enjoyable visit. If a loose paving slab was discovered whilst you were staying at Caleview, you should have contacted me immediately. On calling at the cottage on the day of your departure, I was shocked to find one of the slabs uplifted away from the path, it was puzzling me as this was not on the walking side of the path next to the handrail but the furthest away pathway. This slab was not loose on the morning of your arrival. Rest assured the slab was securely re-laid immediately on my discovery. Painting and decorating is a personal point of view for each individual. It is freshly decorated every winter. A welcome pack is left for everyone which may consist of fruit, biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar, confectionery and quite often other extra items, i.e. soap, shower gel and shampoo. The phrase “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is very apt and “you can’t please all of the people all of the time”, but fortunately many other visitors give Caleview 10 out of 10.

Cottage needs to be brought up to date. No gas central heating during a Scottish winter isn’t ideal. The furnishings are well used also.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Caleview had new electric heaters installed only a few weeks ago making the cottage even more warmer and cosy. Previous guests have left very positive reviews and commented on how cosy and comfortable the cottage is and enjoyed the amazing views on offer.

We had a great time in Gourock, having superb weather definitely helped. Caleview cottage is a lovely house although very dated in furnishings. The views from Caleview cottage are spectacular, we would definitely stay again.

Views from house exceptional. Spacious accommodation. However, we found it to be not very clean and towels and bedding smelt unclean to the point where we had to wash towels. Not feasible to wash bedding as no where to dry. Cutlery and most crockery needed to be washed before use. This would not stop us staying at Caleview again, but would make sure we brought our own towels and bedding, which we shouldn't have to do. Also we were not keen on the sideboards in the lounge and dining room being covered in knitted goods for sale which we had to look at all week! Yorkshire it.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; The views from the bungalow are magnificent and the accommodation perfect for a holiday. It is strange when other visitors have commented that the house, the linen and towels are exceptionally clean, but you disagree saying you had to wash everything before usage. I have dedicated good cleaners who take pride in cleaning out after every change over and this would include the crockery and cutlery. It is nice to read your lovely comments in the visitor book which also state that you would definitely be returning as you have family living in the area, so please do not hesitate to return as you will be very welcome and if you prefer to bring your own towels and bedding then you may do so. I do my best to make everyone welcome and attend to their special needs and requests. Perhaps on your next visit you may see additional spectacular views across the River Clyde with, sunsets and sunrises from the cottage windows, which all adds to a wonderful holiday staying at Caleview, Gourock.
