Lovely location - fantastic. Characterful cottage. But not safe for children and especially when you have a baby. We had no electricity during the first night and no mobile reception. The toilet is down stairs. When we managed to speak to owners they were totally unsympathetic about the need of keeping a light/lights on with the baby and generally being safe with getting down the stairs. At night you can't see your arm in front of you it's so dark. The owners reluctantly put on the generator. I can put up with the coldness with only being a log burner for heat and we had exceptionally cold weather but not the safety aspect. Shame because us and our girls did have a lovely time, in perfect location, but spoilt by owners who care more about saving money than caring for the guests. We wouldn't go back.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Hi, in response to this unusually poor review. Firstly we lit the fire as we always do ensuring the cottage would be warm for the guest’s arrival from 3pm and then returned back to the cottage to make up the fire at 6pm as the guests hadn’t arrived. We then had a phone call from the guests at 8.30pm to say that they wouldn’t be arriving until 11pm so again we went up late that evening to ensure the fire was still going. I then went up in the morning to see if everything was OK as I hadn’t heard them arrive in the night. The guests then said that they were not entirely happy because the fire was out when they arrived and later on in the night there was no electricity. On asking, they said that they didn’t arrive until 1.45am in the morning. We also noticed that many of the lights were still on, including the outside ones, which appeared to show that they had excessively used the available electricity and hadn’t appeared to note the advice about using the electricity carefully. We then set a backup generator going at which point the cottage lit up. We also showed them how to use the generator and when to turn it off, but they persisted in leaving it running longer than we said was necessary. As you can see we tried our best to welcome and provide for the guests and it would seem that they had a lovely time in what they said is a perfect location, which at the end of the day is great and for this reason we do feel that the unusually poor review is a little unjustified. Please, for any other guests, we always point out that this is an eco-cottage and that part of staying here is to experience sustainable living which means being careful with available resources. This said there is always plenty of firewood to ensure you are kept warm. Many thanks.

A great cottage in a lovely location. A little cold in autumn, but once the wood burning stove is going it warms up nicely. Look out for the lovely little ginger cat that paid us a visit, it's super friendly & purrs for England.

As before, all was as expected. We were not entirely sure why the fire, even when burning away happily, did not really heat the room. We love this part of the country and Buckshead is a great location for walks wihtout needing to drive, but also those a bit further away.

Fabulous cottage, secluded and private. A proper break from the mundane. Well recommended.

Great holiday. Loved being away from it all and milking the cow!
