St. Benets (W44381) and St. Petrocs (W44382) are semi-detached properties situated alongside Avila House. Both the houses have lovely views towards Hembury Woods and Dartmoor with access to a large flat lawn area at the rear offering plenty of space for children to play, as well as their own private gardens. A wonderful location for families with children or a group of friends to come and experience the tranquillity at Buckfast Abbey.
The abbey stands in a very peaceful setting, on the outskirts of the little town of Buckfastleigh, on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, with the River Dart flowing through the abbey grounds. The history of Buckfast Abbey is extraordinary as it is the only English medieval monastery to have been restored and used again for its original purpose. The extensive gardens at Buckfast Abbey provide a pleasant environment for a stroll, taking in the lovely sensory gardens, designed to stimulate the senses of sight, smell, hearing and touch. Beach 20 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub ½ mile and restaurant on-site.

We enjoyed our holiday at St Petroc and we would return again. We loved the proximity to Buckfast Abbey. The view from upstairs windows of the Abbey is really beautiful. Having all the facilities of the Abbey - cafe, book shop, tourist shop, the very interesting museum covering the history of the monks, the beautiful gardens and the lovely Abbey itself close at hand was great. At the 10.30 Mass on Sunday they had a lovely choir singing in plainsong the Latin Mass and the Abbey was packed. The scenery in this part of Devon is lovely and lots to do. I would of given the cottage a 10 but first impressions were not so good as we entered through the back of the cottage. The conservatory is in great need of a coat of paint outside also all the windows frames outside. Inside the cottage is good with lots of equipment. Improvements upstairs needed in main bathroom paint is required round the shower. Also I would throw out the old wardrobes and get bigger ones with drawers or shelves inside. In the room with two single beds there is just a small wardrobe and two small drawers by the bed. Difficult if two adults had to share that room. In the other bedroom there is an extremely ancient looking wardrobe. More hangers would also be useful. Even so the pluses at the cottage outwayed the minuses and the small garden at the front and back looked very pretty with roses and flowers. Another minus is you really should put the correct photos of the inside of St Petroc as it has the photos of the cottage next door and this gives you a shock when you first arrive. I have now seen this mentioned on previous reviews and it has still not been corrected.
