English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Pretty cottage with beamed lounge, wood burning stove and feature fireplace, and a woodland garden with small stream.

This pretty, detached, 17th-century renovated cottage lies in the delightful village of Long Compton which is a long village with a 13th-century parish church. About 1 mile to the south are the mysterious Rollright stones, a neolithic monument said to be haunted. The holiday cottage has an attractive woodland garden bordered by a small stream and is in an excellent location to explore the Cotswolds, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford. The village is well served by a shop and an excellent and well renowned pub offering fine cuisine.

Nice cottage but there is mould in the corner of the smaller bedroom and a smell of stale urine from the downstairs wooden toilet seat which marred an otherwise perfect cottage. No hand soap, dishwasher tablets or cleaning materials available. Plenty of parking there is good. Previous cottages have also had local amenities and emergency contact details in the information pack. Comfortable lounge and beds and very well equipped kitchen.

When we arrived the cleaners where still there. The kitchen floor was still wet but we didn't realise so walked across it and left foot prints so had to clean it again. Lots of cob webs and spiders. I know you get a lot this time of year but as they had just finished would have expected less. No soap in bathrooms.

Well equipped with regards to kitchen equipment, cutlery and crockery. Comfortable chairs and beds. A little disappointed with the overall cleanliness, cobwebs etc . The stairs are lethal and the description of the steps between rooms was understated, my wife uses a walking frame and really struggled. Location was excellent as it was within reasonable mileage of many attractions

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We were sorry to hear of your disappointment with the cleanliness, if you had contacted us we could have arranged to have this rectified for you. With regard to the steep staircase and other steps in property these are highlighted and the cottage agency is fully aware of the description and would have advised you before your holiday if they had been contacted.

Nice spacious cottage, set back from the road in a quiet setting. Red Lion pub nearby has good food, but would recommend booking as they get busy. A couple of niggles that prevent me giving a higher score.... the oven didn't work, there was no wifi (and patchy mobile reception), and no welcome pack / pint of milk. Overall a nice cottage that suited us well for a weekend away.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; The cottage is not advertised with wifi as per the description on line. Unfortunately the mobile signal is out of our control.

The property looked like it was once excellent but now it is tired, poorly maintained and not well cleaned. Also, we did not spot that there was no Wi-Fi. This is a basic requirement. Location is very good, cottage has real character and garden is lovely. Hygiene is the biggest failing and needs to improve!

A lovely character cottage with plenty of room to relax and unwind. Easy to find and easy to park - wake up to the sound of birdsong on the edge of a pretty village.
