Description

Enjoy a wonderful stay at this cosy cottage, located on a working farm on the edge of Exmoor National Park.

Situated on the edge of Exmoor National Park, Briddicott Farm Cottage is located close to the medieval village of Dunster, with its famous castle, deer park and mill. This cosy holiday cottage with wood burner offers a real working farm experience, being located within a busy working farm in The Crown Estate which is renowned for its production of sheep’s milk. There are various pens and barns with cattle all around the cottage - glance out of the bedroom windows and watch sheep grazing on the rolling hills! In the lawned front garden are some resident hens, and there is a sitting out area – the ideal spot to enjoy al fresco dining or a drink on a balmy evening and enjoy distant views of the Somerset coast. There is superb walking with many footpaths leading to either the South West Coastal Path or the heathlands and forests of the Dunster woodland and Exmoor National Park. Other places to visit are the Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton which are famous for the Watersmeet Gorge, National Trust, and the Valley of the Rocks and the funicular cliff railway. The West Somerset Railway is great for steam train lovers! There are beaches at Porlock and Dunster. Shops, pubs and restaurant 1 mile.

Lovely people running a busy farm. Remember this cottage is right in the heart of the working farm, cow barn full of cows a few feet away from the cottage which we did not mind! Electric heaters and a wood burner for heating which had to be left in all the time to keep the place warm. Heater not working in bathroom so damp and black mold which was not nice and not pleasant to have a bath or shower. Nice touch that they have logs in the garage we can use and nice large log burner. Only down side was the bed very uncomfortable but nice pillows, cold bathroom and the place needed a good clean. ( log burner needed cleaning out before we could use and the cooker was really dirty) (I had to pull the knobs off and give it a good clean) Apart from that it was worth the money we paid for the hire for the week and as I said the owners were very welcoming and nice. If the above Problems were sorted it would be a really nice place to stay. It’s located down a long drive from the village to the farm (about 800 mts) Great views over the village, the rolling hills, blue anchor beach and wales across the sea around 15 miles away. We would book again and hope the problems are addressed. I would say it’s more a 2-3 star not a 4 star. Dunster, blue anchor, exmoor, minehead etc all close so lots to see. I recommend this place for a break.

We had the best Christmas at the cottage this year. What a lovely farm. And what lovely people Andrew and Tracey. Tracey took me out on their land to cut down my own Christmas tree, what a lovely touch! Beautiful cottage with the lovely open fire and a lovely view of the sea. Plenty in the kitchen to cook my Christmas dinner! My grandson loved the animals just on the door step. Unforgettable Christmas thank you Tracey and Andrew x

The location of this cottage is absolutely perfect, you have coast and spectacular countryside within walking distance with the benefit of being on a proper working farm. The owner is the most friendly host you could wish for; he is passionate about his farm and is full of really interesting facts about the animals & surrounding area. The cottage is very cosy especially in the evenings with the log burner blazing away. We have stayed in many cottages, but for location and views this cannot be beaten. We recommend the walk over the fields to Dunster castle, a superb walk for the family & dog.

Excellent location for exploring the surrounding area. This is a true working farm and it was lovely to see the collies working the sheep as well as the other animals. Buzzards seen regularly too. Dog owners must visit Dunster beach which is ideal for the dogs and only 10 mins away. Lovely views from the cottage too. The owners were very helpful when we left some items of clothing behind! These were posted to us as soon as they were made aware. We had a lovely weeks break and would go back again.
