Braefoot 1860 is quietly situated on the edge of the very attractive conservation village of Straiton, voted one of the ten best villages in Scotland, and featured in the book ’The Most Beautiful Villages of Scotland’. The entire area is known for its gently rolling landscape, its hills dotted with sheep and traversed by the winding River Girvan, and is a hugely popular area with walkers and cyclists of all abilities. Ayrshire is home to the Ayrshire Coastal Path, a 100 mile long coastal walk with one of the finest panoramic coastlines in the British Isles. Crowned with a superb backdrop of the ever-changing profile of the mountains of Arran across the Firth of Clyde, this coastline is rich in wildlife, including red squirrels, deer, otters and seals and is a haven for birdwatchers.
Inland there are gardens and castles to visit, fishing, horse riding, racing and a choice of golf courses, with the world famous Turnberry close to hand. Culzean Castle (owned by the National Trust for Scotland) is spectacular and is Ayrshire’s most popular tourist attraction. Nestled in the heart of ’Burns’ country’ which is steeped in tradition and history, Braefoot is ideal for visiting Burns Cottage, Memorial Museum and the Brig o’ Doon, the bridge from the famous poem Tam o’Shanter, a must for Burns fans. Day trips to Ireland can be taken from Cairnryan and ferry links to the islands of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae are within easy reach. Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh are perfect for a day out, as is Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, or only a short drive away is the traditional seaside town of Ayr. Shop and pub 250 yards, restaurant 4 miles.

The perfect cottage, Alison and Bob made our stay memorable and nothing was too much trouble. From the personal hello and adding the baby cot to the little welcome pack to help us settle in. Very easy and relaxing, we cannot thank them enough. Thanks again Alison and Bob

Cottage is truly a home from home, Alison and Bob have done a fantastic job with it there is nothing you need to take with you. The welcome pack of Red wine/White wine/milk/cheese/biscuits and Home made Redcurrant jelly which was delicious by the way,was a lovely surprise. If i could fault one thing and one thing only it would be that there is only a shower and not a bath, sometimes its just nice to soak after a day out on holiday but apart from that everything was perfect. Very clean throughout and in a good location for the area, we went to Ayr,Portpatrick,Trump Turnberry which you must see just to see the scale of it and the lighthouse there. Garden is very well kept and private and safe for your pet. The Isle of Arran is only a one hour ferry journey. Overall cottage was excellent.
