Double bed is in a room far too small for it which made sleeping and access difficult. Rather cramped accommodation. Smelly drains. No electricity when we arrived. In need of a deep clean - too many Knick knacks trapping dust and hairs ! Has potential and the garden is pleasant but we would not return.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry that there was no electricity when you arrived but it was soon recognised that the lighting trip switch had activated: a nuisance but, nevertheless, a rare occasion when a light bulb blows. We are pleased the system was reinstated without delay. Thank you for your review. It would have been helpful for following guest if you had contacted our locally based management company at the time, expressing your concerns regarding cleanliness. had no knowledge of this until now. Smelly drains are a worry given that the drainage system was not designed to cope with the disposal of wet wipes etc. Notices from Northumbrian Water are on display informing of this. No other complaints had been received but an investigation was made and, thankfully, all was clear. The cottage is described as being cosy a term which, in respect of an inherently Victorian country cottage, should give an indication as to its size and characteristics. The double-bedded room is acceptable under three-star classification and the twin-bedded room is more than adequate. It could be that a four-star rated cottage would be a better option of choice to avoid disappointment in this respect.

This was a last minute booking and a fabulous port in a storm, we had a much needed rest and break, the cottage is cosy but very well equipped, has a lovely small garden. It is close to the main line railway but we did not hear any trains at all - so please be reassured by this. Lovely, quiet well equipped cottage, will defiantly consider coming back here in the future. Thank you

Pleased with the cottage. Good location for touring Northumberland. The cottage was well equipped with all mod cons and very dog friendly. The local shop was useful for the basic essentials, but as Alnwick was not that far away it wasnt a problem. Overall our holiday was very pleasent. Would definitely recommend Botany Cottage. With definite consideration if we were staying in this area again.

It was a lovely little cottage but not for disabled people which we were told it was There was no room to get a wheelchair in the bedroom or back garden. The only local shop was not very well stocked at all and the pub in the village did not serve food as advertised outside.

The cottage was fine for two people but four would have been difficult. You could only squeeze round the double bed with difficulty!! Also a squeeze round the sofa and table. Felt the locals not very friendly and resented the three holiday cottages occupants being there! Also all the way down the road were signs saying no turning and one had to drive a long way to find a place to turn the car around as the road is busy. Having the high speed rail link so close was also a surprise!! However the cottage was well equipped and we thoroughly enjoyed the coastal walks and sites which were lovely. Also the fact that is was all so dog friendly everywhere!!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review. Botany Cottage, as could be expected by its description, is a small traditional Victorian cottage. We are sorry and disappointed that you, and possibly others, in this terrace of four Victorian holiday cottages did not feel welcome. In our experience past customers have keenly expressed how kind and helpful people in Christon Bank and the surrounding area have been. There has been a considerable growth in the areas popularity as a holiday destination and with that most coastal villages now.have to contend with an increase in traffic and consequent parking problems. There have been instances of the inconsiderate parking of vehicles, especially on pavements. Off-road parking is provided for both our cottages and, therefore, if used properly should not create a nuisance. There is just one sign down the road saying no turning and that is on a private road. The turning point for vehicles, if sometimes needed, is a drive of 700 yards down the road. The orientation of the cottage is such that the noise of rail traffic is heard only faintly in the distance. Nothing of this is heard throughout the night. Repeat bookings of the cottages attest to this fact. We are glad you enjoyed the facilities provided at the cottage and pleased that you gave your recommendations of this beautiful part of Northumberland.

We were offered this cottage when our first choice became unavailable. We were very pleased with the facilities and both bathrooms were well equipped and modern. The lounge is spacious, with comfortable chairs and dvd/vhs/blue ray available. It doesn’t have internet, or at least we couldn’t find it! The kitchen is well equipped, but cosy, and being over six feet tall I adopted a slightly unwarranted stoop when I made breakfast, etc. The surrounding countryside is wonderful and unspoilt and the cottage is not far from the A1. It is very near to Low Newton and the other costal spots are not much further. A short drive to the station in Alnmouth puts you in touch with Edinburgh, Berwick and Newcastle. We had a lovely time!
