Description

Enjoy the views from the cottage garden of this lovely property, an ideal countryside retreat for two.

Located in a scenic area adjacent to the owner’s home, this delightful property is set along a quiet lane leading to Earnley Church and Medmerry Nature Reserve RSPB, where a host of birds and other wildlife can be seen, as well as unspoilt scenic walks along the coastline. The nearest beach is at Bracklesham, about ½ mile away. There are some lovely country pubs in the area, as well as independent shops.
Offering a wonderful vista over fields where sheep and lambs graze, this lovely holiday cottage is ideal for couples wishing to explore the area. Bookers Rife has been cleverly converted, with an open plan living/bedroom area on the first floor, which has a sloped ceiling and plenty of natural light from the Velux and picture windows. The kitchen/dining room and bathroom are on the ground floor. There is a pretty country garden area which overlooks the sheep fields, and has a bench and garden furniture. Within the shared grounds, there is also a sun room which guests are welcome to use, and a feature mini garden, which comes alive throughout the year with various plants/shrubs and flowers.
The area is abundant in wildlife, and Pagham Nature Reserve is also close by, and is a haven for birdwatching, while Chichester Harbour offers boat trips around the coastline and harbour. A short drive away is historic Chichester with its ornate cathedral, festival theatre, pedestrianised cobbled lanes, shopping, leisure complex, tea rooms and many pubs and restaurants. Slightly further afield is Goodwood, famous for motor and horse racing. Fontwell Races, the Weald and Downland Open Museum and Bosham sailing village are also within easy reach. Discover the South Down National Park, or enjoy golf, horse riding, cycling, fishing and sailing. Also with easy driving distance are historic Arundel Castle and naval Portsmouth with the Spinnaker Tower, day trips to the Isle of Wight, shopping outlets and maritime history. Beach ½ mile. Excellent position. Very comfortable. Thanks to the owners for making sure we didn't leave a pair of glasses behind.

We had a lovely couple of days at Bookers Rife. The owners are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay. They even lent us their bicyles which meant we could leave the car behind and explore the area. Situated a 30 minute cycle ride from Bracklesham Bay and a little further to East Wittering. A more idylicc spot would be hard to find.

Wonderful hosts, excellent accommodation and beautiful location. We arrived just as a ewe had given birth to a lamb and another was due, so we spent the next hour in the barn with coffee and were lucky enough to see the second one being born. Fantastic experience.

A good location, but lacking in amenities within walking distance. A nice cosy cottage, would have been better if the garden had an enclosed area for the dog.

Its a small cottage attached to the owners property, who were actually very nice people, the property is really just a studio with a small kitchen and bathroom downstairs, access to the studio, a converted loft space, is via a steep staircase which could be difficult for some people, especially on a visit to the bathroom at night, there was a very small tv upstairs.

I found the steep staircase with 13 narrow steps a problem as I am partially disabled. So I had to sleep downstairs on the floor. However I was prepared to do this OK had it not been for the adjoining glass door with people on the other side who could see me! So got a B & B. The worst thing for me as a dog-lover was that the place was advertised as 'dog friendly'. As everything was on the first floor and my dog was not allowed upstairs he would have been shut downstairs unsupervised in a strange kitchen on his own the whole time, and that would have been distressing. This holiday was for him as much as for me. Very disappointing.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are disappointed that this guest was not happy with our accommodation as we to date have always had very positive comments and do our best to help our guests as we did with her. It is clear from the website photographs and description that the bedroom and lounge are on the first floor, the stairs are normal with a full length handrail and not particularly steep again you can partly see them on the photos. This guest arrived with her own bed roll and in fact told us that this has happened before so it seemed she had decided to sleep downstairs with her dog before she arrived. I asked her if she was sure this was alright, she said it was. I moved the kitchen table and removed a chair and the coat rack to give more room. I then carried a mattress downstairs and made up a bed with sheet, duvet and pillows. The guest said she was happy with this. The glass door she refers to is fitted with obscure glass and has an opaque net curtain on the holiday let side. You cannot see into the holiday let from the other side. We do consider the property as dog friendly as we have a large garden and a further 7 acres of land available for walking. All we ask is that guests clear up after their dogs and keep them off the settee and beds. As the guest is partially disabled she had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the property firstly when she booked or even prior to booking and secondly when she rang to enquire about collecting the keys but unfortunately didn’t do so. We are therefore disappointed with this rating.
