Description

This coastal property is perfectly located on the Ayrshire Coastal Path, an ideal base for walkers.

Located in the small village of Cairnryan, this spacious, detached holiday property is ideally located to explore south west Scotland. Dumfries and Galloway boast rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches which benefit from the warmth of the passing Gulf Stream and are surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Machars Peninsula and the Galloway Hills. From the challenging uplands of the Galloway Hills to gentle seaside trails, rolling moors and cliff-top walks, the Southern Upland Way passing close by presents the ideal focus from which to enjoy the many shorter walks. The dramatic scenery is home to a rich company of flora and fauna, with many unusual species including pine martens, golden eagle, ospreys, red deer and red squirrels. The property is situated on the Ayrshire Coastal Path, Scotland’s long distance walking route, 100 miles along one of the finest panoramic coastlines of the British Isles. The coastline is crowned with a superb backdrop of the ever-changing profile of Ailsa Craig and the mountains of Arran across the Firth of Clyde. The area is steeped in history and teeming with wildlife, including red squirrels, deer, otters and seals and is a haven for birdwatchers on the moors and estuary. Inland there are gardens and castles to visit, the Galloway Forest Park, racing at Ayr and a choice of golf courses. Culzean Castle together with its surrounding country park is Ayrshire’s most popular tourist attraction. Castle Kennedy and Glenwhan are just two of the wonderful west coast gardens nearby. Shop 20 yards, pub 200 yards, restaurant 4 miles.

A well-equipped, clean, comfortable, warm and cozy house. The welcome gifts of shortbread, mince pies, chocs and fizz were a lovely touch as was the fully decorated Christmas tree. We had a lovely new year celebration with our extended family. We were a bit concerned when we discovered that the house is directly opposite the ferry terminal but it added to our enjoyment to watch the ferries docking and did not spoil the view of the sea. We enjoyed the coastal walks and the proximity to Stranraer. We would be happy to return.

Well what can I say...the cottage itself was nice, well equipped, smelt musky and of damp in the porch and front room but you get used to it. There is no shop for 13 miles and there is no pub either as stated, it shut down years ago. You actually feel like your inside the ferry port, you have hgvs going past the front window every few seconds and can't have windows open because of the noise. The ferry itself woke us up early in mornings with its ding dong. I am not a nit picker by any means and usually with grin and bear things but I just couldn't here. We ended up paying for somewhere else after 2 nights.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner. The customer was advised that there is a pub and shop in the village caravan site, the entrance of which is adjacent to the house. We also note that the guest also complained that the garden is all concrete when in fact; the large, lawned courtyard garden has grass and woodland to the east and south of the house. It’s such a shame that the guest decided to leave early – so many previous guests have really enjoyed their stay at Blink Bonnie. The low score of ‘2’ for location is of course a matter of personal opinion, but the advert does give potential guests a very accurate and detailed description of where the property is before booking.
