The cottage is set in Banavie about 4 miles from Fort William town centre. There is a very good hotel close-by with bistro, café and bar, plus several gift shops, and a children’s play area. Banavie enjoys exceptional views of Ben Nevis and the Caledonian Canal passes by the village at Neptune’s Staircase, which is a set of lock gates that raise vessels into Banavie upper canal area. It has a train station which is part of the West Highland Line between Fort William and Mallaig. There’s a nice walk or cycle from Banavie into Fort William via Caol village. You are within a short distance of the village of Caol, pronounced "Cool" which has a supermarket, a pub serving food and some takeaway eateries. Caol has a beach where you can enjoy walks along the shore front with stunning views.

There is a sea-level walk to the small coastal village of Corpach and the return journey can be made along the pathway of the Caledonian Canal. Corpach has shops and bars, and a bus to take you into Fort William. Many people come to Fort William to visit the UK’s biggest mountain, Ben Nevis, which is part of the Aonach Mhor mountain range. Wherever you travel in Lochaber, you will be impressed by its spectacular beauty, wild mountains, coastal and inland lochs and clean white beaches. You may see some of the elusive wildlife such as red deer, golden eagle or Minke Whale. For the outdoor enthusiast climbing, walking, skiing, mountain biking, fishing, golf, horse riding and various watersports are avail-able locally. Visit stunning castles and gardens, sail to the beautiful island of Mull, take trips to the small Isles or spend a day exploring the Ardnamurchan Peninsula.
