The epic performance of Kynren charts over 2000 years of British history, myth and legend. The show itself uses a cast of thousands of volunteers from the area and unfolds upon a landscaped, open air stage which is huge in size and has a full size lake at its centre. This is one event that you really must book, if only to see the dazzling pyrotechnics and shimmering light show, all within the back drop of Auckland Castle. You can even look out towards the Eleven Arches event area and see the fireworks from the garden of the cottage!
The location is also perfect for guests wanting to visit the cathedral city of Durham, Bishop’s Cottage is situated about a 15-minute drive away. Popular tourist attractions include the Lumiere Festival, held every two years, the annual jazz festival, book week, arts week, the theatre, castle and cathedral as well as many designer boutiques and shops. The location is a great base for guests with friends and family based at Durham University as the main campuses are all within an easy 20-minute drive. If you enjoy a walking or cycling holiday then Bishop’s Cottage provides a great base for exploring County Durham by foot or by cycle. Hamsterley Forest is only 7 miles away and is a delightful 4900-acre site of popular walking trails, including the Gruffalo Trail, cycle trails and orienteering, as well as plenty of spots for the perfect picnic. Only 1½ miles away you will find the village of Escomb which is home to Escomb Church, the earliest Saxon church in Britain. Witton Castle in Witton-le-Wear is 5 miles away and offers fly fishing, a bird sanctuary, historic castle and beautiful grounds. The National Railway Museum in Shildon is only 3 miles away, and is another great destination for a fun filled day out for all ages. Shop and pub 1 mile, restaurant 2 miles.
