This unique former Presbyterian church has lots of space for family gatherings, an ideal place for sharing some special times with friends too. A Grade II listed building built in the early 1800s, oozing character and charm throughout. Visitors looking for somewhere just that bit different to stay will enjoy the quirkiness of this large property with high beams, a cosy wood burner for those cooler evenings, and the original pulpit still stands within the living area. This detached converted church is just on the edge of Rochester village close to Otterburn. Birdhope Craig Church is in the highly acclaimed Northumberland National Park, a dream for adventure seekers, walkers, cyclists and tourists alike.
The Northumberland National Park is the largest dark sky park in Europe and just perfect for star gazing, and real enthusiasts may want to book into the observatory at Kielder. There is plenty of wildlife to see with ospreys and water voles being reintroduced to the area. If fishing is your thing you can hire a boat and head out on the largest man-made lake in Europe. There’s plenty for the younger ones too with zip wires, sea scooters and three visitor centres. Nearby Otterburn has a friendly store selling all the provisions you may need. Otterburn Mill is a popular stop off for bus trips, with a good range of outdoor wear and walking equipment. A small café is in the village and does a fabulous breakfast, popular with cyclists and bikers in the summer, and it’s the last café before you enter Scotland. The borders are 12 miles away so it’s so easy to visit Scotland too whilst staying here.
The coast is only 38 miles away where you can head further north and follow all the Heritage coastal routes. Hadrian’s Wall is hugely popular with all age groups where you can discover more about the Emperor Hadrian and how the Romans lived way back in 117AD. The wall took 14 years to build and is the largest structure built by the Romans stretching 70 miles. The area offers something different in every season and with the changing colours over the moors, the scenery can be breathtaking all year around. Shop 6 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.
