The cottages offer space and character in a delightful courtyard setting. Birdforth Hall Cottages have shared use of superb leisure facilities which include an indoor heated swimming pool and additional area in which to sit and relax. The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway offers a relaxing ride through the stunning moorland and forest of Heartbeat country, leading to the Heritage coastline where abbey ruins stand high above the bustling harbour at Whitby, Smugglers’ Coves can be found in Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay. The 18th-century house at Castle Howard, NT Beningbrough Hall with its National Portrait Gallery and the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey, provide excellent days out. The World of James Herriot can be found in Thirsk, and Flamingo Land and Lightwater Valley provide fun for all the family. Horse racing at York, Thirsk and Ripon. Pool was a great asset and having your own allocated time worked well. Rooms were clean and good size, bathrooms spotless. Ideal for two families

Had a great week at The Granary. Really warm cottage in a week of cold weather. My grandkids had fun in the pool and enjoyed the open space to kick a ball.

Fantastic cottage with all the equipment we needed for our stay. Nothing was too much trouble with support 24/7 from the letting company. Perfectly placed for visiting nearby towns/cities although A little remote (which we wanted) with great views of the countryside. You need transport to access local towns/amenities etc. Swimming pool is a great bonus and we had plenty of time allocated for the whole family to enjoy. We will hopefully be returning again. 👍

Large cottage for a lovely family get together. Comfortable, well equipped, with added bonus of a pool which the children loved. Lovely location, near to York and under an hour's drive to coast.

The Granary was a wonderful base for our two families to explore North Yorkshire. It was great to be able to run two showers at once! Sounds silly but getting 7 people ready would have been awful if we were having to take it in turns. We enjoyed a day out in York- by train from Thirsk station. Also a fantastic drive out to Whitby for our fish and chips.

The Granary is a terrific, spacious cottage with plenty of space to not feel overcrowded even with 9 people. The beds were very comfy with good sized bathrooms and the very spacious livingroom meant the kids and adults could occupy the same room without disturbing each other. We really enjoyed the large private garden and the swimming pool, although the pool is best descibed as "not cold" rather than "heated". The only draw back was the lack of a dustpan and brush and the intermittent high pitched whine in the downstairs bathroom.

The Granary was a lovely spacious house, ideal for our family reunion celebration. We were there Friday to Friday; for the first weekend there was another group in one of the other houses, but for the rest of the time, Monday to Friday, we had the whole complex to ourselves. This meant we had freedom to use the pool at any time - much appreciated because it must have been one of the hottest weeks of the summer! There were a couple of minor niggles: a brush was provided to keep the kitchen floor swept clean, but no dustpan or hand shovel, so it was a challenge to dispose of the sweepings. Also there was a beehive/nest under the eaves by one of the bedroom windows which meant that the window had to be kept closed to avoid bees coming in - not ideal in hot weather. These didn't spoil our enjoyment of the place, but a defects report book in the property could help to let the cleaning company know what to correct for the next guests.
