Overlooking the green and adjacent to the footpath leading to the river, this cosy cottage is situated in an ideal location for enjoying the delightful market town of Thirsk. Guests are assured a comfortable holiday in this carefully presented end-terraced cottage. A short walk leads to the cobbled market square, surrounded by quaint tea rooms, independent shops, and home to a twice weekly market. James Herriot, local vet and author, was born here and his house and surgery have been converted into an award-winning museum where visitors can learn of the life he wrote about in ‘All Creatures Great and Small’.
Thirsk is superbly positioned midway between the North Yorkshire Moors and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, where days out can be spent exploring the numerous walking and cycling trails, the picturesque villages and the welcoming country inns serving local ales and hearty meals. The medieval city of York and the elegant spa town of Harrogate are within a 40 minute drive, and the coastal resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey are easily accessible. Visit historic houses at Beningbrough and Castle Howard, and explore the monastery ruins at Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx. Family fun can be found at Lightwater Valley, Flamingo Land and Brimham Rocks. There is horse racing throughout the summer in Thirsk, York and Ripon. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 150 yards.

Although a nice cottage inside we were disturbed by youths at the walk way to the side of the cottage on several occasions At one point a resident called the police We found this unnerving

Response on behalf of the owner; We were surprised and sorry to find that your enjoyment of staying in our little cottage had been marred by an unfortunate incident that coloured the ratings that were given in your review. We would like to say that we have not had such a problem in the almost 5 years since acquiring the cottage and our experience of Thirsk is that of a quiet market town as supported by many previous reviews.

A lovely cottage, ideally situated for the town and also for visiting attractions such as Castle Howard, York etc. The cottage was really cosy, lovely and warm, spotlessly clean and very well appointed. If we had anything negative to say it would be that the bathroom is downstairs (the two bedrooms occupy both upstair rooms) the metal frame beds squeak quite loudly each time you turn over, and the dining chairs and the sofa/chairs are very low backed - not very supportive. But putting this into context, this cottage is compact on the outside, but doesn't feel like that on the inside, it has a super kitchen with every item you could ever need, and it's very handy for local amenities and the shops.
