This delightful village is an excellent choice for exploring Royal Deeside’s rich heritage including the Balmoral Estate (8 miles) and a number of other historic castles in the area. Ballater and the surrounding area offer a wide range of summer and winter activities to suit all ages including hillwalking, cycling, fishing, climbing in the Cairngorm Mountains, wildlife watching, gliding at nearby Aboyne and skiing at Glenshee and The Lecht. Go fishing in the Dee or visit the numerous golf courses which pepper the area, including Ballater’s own 18 hole course in its beautiful setting on the banks of the Dee.
