Description

Quality accommodation which boasts views across Budle Bay and Holy Island. Enclosed garden and only five minutes from the beach.

With spectacular views across Budle Bay and Holy Island, and with just a 5-minute walk to the beach, this exceptional single-storey holiday property and its large, enclosed garden, makes it the perfect location for admiring the ever changing sands and tides, stunning sunsets and star filled skies at night. This stone-built home offers spacious and elegant accommodation, with vaulted ceilings, original beams, an open fire and a bespoke kitchen/dining room with Aga. The house has been configured so that all bedrooms, the main living room and kitchen take advantage of the spectacular views across Budle Bay and to Holy Island. There is also a small snug/sitting room with DVD player and built-in wardrobes. The house is situated on Northumberland’s Heritage Coast, in an AONB famous for its bird life and miles of sandy beaches. Two miles from the house is the village of Bamburgh, with its imposing castle, Grace Darling museum, pubs, butcher and general store. Three miles further up the road is the bustling little seaside village of Seahouses, where boat trips can be taken to the Farne Islands to visit the grey seals and migrating sea birds nestling on the nature reserves maintained by the NT. The area is well known for its many castles, golf courses and stately homes. Alnwick Castle (of Harry Potter fame) and Alnwick Garden is half an hour south from Budle. Holy Island is a short drive away and is reached by a causeway at low tide; it is one of the oldest sites of Christianity in Britain. On the island is the 16th-century Lindisfarne Castle (seen from the kitchen of Beach View), remodelled by Lutyens and with a small Gertrude Jekyll garden. Inland, the Cheviots and moors are ideal for walking, cycling and pony trekking. Berwick-upon-Tweed, with its ancient walls, is 30 minutes away, whilst Newcastle, with regenerated quayside, museums, art galleries and shops, is an hour’s drive. Edinburgh is a little further afield but easily managed, especially by train. Shops 2 miles.

Large beamed living room with open fire, views to Budle and doors to garden (front and back). Beamed, bespoke kitchen with large dining table, glass work tops, Aga (for cooking), view to Lindisfarne Castle, tiled floor and door to patio with beach view. Three beamed bedrooms, each with views across the bay; one double with 5ft bed and en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet, one further double and one twin. Small snug/sitting room with DVD. Shower room with large walk-in shower and toilet.

The pictures don’t do this property justice. It is very spacious and comfortable with views from all windows across the bay to Holy island. Beautifully furnished with everything you could possibly need. The area has lots to do and see. The walks are lovely and the wildlife is fabulous. There are no facilities in Budle Bay itself, but Bamburgh is just a short walk along the beach and has some great places to eat. We have previously stayed in National Trust cottages, but thought this was much better appointed and the Aga is wonderful, currently scoping out my kitchen at home with every intent on having one installed.

We have visited this area a lot over the years & love this cottage & the fabulous location, so close to the beach. The owners are very friendly & helpful & the accommodation is nicely decorated and very well equipped.

We spent a very enjoyable week with friends (5 of us in all) in this lovely converted cow shed that overlooks Budle Bay. The Aga was an added bonus as the weather was dull and chilly with only occasional sunny spells. The property is very tastefully decorated and furnished as well as being well equipped. It has the feel of being "home from home". Budle Bay is just a short stroll away and is home to nesting sea birds. We managed to visit Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle, The Grace Darling Museum, Howick Gardens as well as Holy Island (Lindisfarne) and The Farne Islands. All in all a super week. We hope to return to the cottage again one day to explore the area further.
