Tucked away in their own picturesque valley, this imposing stone farmhouse and three Grade II listed properties Kildale Barn, Ingleby Barn and Westerdale Barn lie on the site of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey in an idyllic setting, where endless footpaths radiate from the door. Accessed by a 2-mile drive, they are set on a working farm where sheep and cattle graze (farm machinery – children must be supervised) within the glorious North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Baysdale Abbey has been furnished and equipped to a very good standard. All rooms are spacious, light and airy with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Original wooden floors on the ground level blend with shuttered windows, cornices add decorative touches and open fires in the reception rooms provide a welcoming atmosphere. A large natural garden surrounds the house and is edged by a fenced beck, providing a good habitat for an array of wildlife. Dating back to the 1800s, the other three holiday properties offer character accommodation in a tranquil and idyllic location. Vaulted beamed ceilings and wood-burning stoves add to the charm and character providing a welcoming atmosphere. Offering 3 miles of sandy beaches is the historic port of Whitby with its picturesque harbour and cobbled streets. Here you can board the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Train (Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films) and take a memorable journey through the stunning Esk Valley. Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Duncombe Park and Rievaulx Abbey are just a few of the treasures awaiting discovery. The coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Sandsend all lie within 23 miles. This is an ideal holiday location at any time of the year. Shop 3 miles, pub 6 miles and restaurant 8 miles.
Westerdale Barn (27944) can be booked together with Baysdale Abbey (27943), Kildale Barn (27945) and Ingleby Barn (27946) to accommodate up to 31 guests.

Baysdale Abbey was exactly the venue we needed to accommodate people attending a nearby wedding. We booked it along with 3 cottages on site. Sophie could not have been more helpful. The location is quite remote however supermarkets delivered. Equipment in the games room needs repair to make the best of the facilities but otherwise we were very happy. The garden and stream running alongside was perfect setting for a BBQ.

Baysdale Abbey was a fantastic location for my wife's 70th birthday. We were 15 adults and one baby and all fitted into the Abbey very comfortably. It is very well set up for catering for large groups with plenty of appropriate cooking equipment and we were able to seat the 15 around the dining room table quite easily. The location is stunning at the bottom of the valley and made the more magical by being at the end of a 2.5 mile single track road. For those seeking exercise, there are plenty of good walks up over the moors. if you are looking for a place to spend a comfortable family weekend or for a celebration Baysdale Abbey is ideal.

We stayed over New Year in a group of four families. There are many great things about the property- beautiful location , plenty of space, very warm & a pretty well equipped spacious kitchen. It had everything we needed. It is remote so you do need to plan food etc in advance but that’s part of the charm! It was obviously a grand house in its day but could do with a bit of investment in places (some new carpets & a few of the mattresses could do with replacing- super king & kids bunks). An extra shower would have been very useful too. Also the Games room was a bit of a disappointment for the kids as the pool table was unusable and it was a bit cold & damp in there generally. Luckily though they were perfectly happy playing on the swing outside & hide and seek inside. Overall a great holiday and good option for large groups.
