In a peaceful village setting, within a row of spacious terraced cottages, Barn Owl Retreat, named after the local barn owl which often swoops past the cottage, offers the perfect location for guests wanting to explore the western Lakes. This wonderful property gives you plenty of space especially on the ground floor where you’ll find a comfortable living room leading into the large kitchen/dining room, perfect for a family feast, board games at the dining table and the odd glass of wine! It is the social hub of the house and is great for enjoying quality time together during your holiday. The first floor houses two single bedrooms both with comfortable beds and plenty of storage for your belongings as well as a modern shower room. Finally, the best views from the cottage can be enjoyed from a spacious double bedroom on the second floor. The property also enjoys a large garden with a lawn and patio to the side and rear.

Barn Owl Retreat is located on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, with the village amenities just over a mile away, there is a shop for the essentials as well as two excellent pubs offering great food and locally produced ales. The cottage is just 2 miles from the Lake District National Park with an abundance of walks, cycle routes, wildlife, mountains and lakes. Ennerdale Water is just 5½ miles away and is regarded as one of the most unspoilt areas in the Lake District National Park, and is full of wildlife, with red squirrels, osprey and buzzards to name a few. If that’s not enough, Loweswater is also 5½ miles away which leads to Crummock Water and then Buttermere. The scenery around this unspoilt part of the Lakes is stunning and the beauty, colours and unforgettable panoramic views are simply amazing. Whether you want an easy stroll, a challenging walk or a serious climb, you’ve got a great base to start your adventures. Just 7 miles away is the town of Whitehaven with good restaurants, supermarkets, a popular harbour and good shopping. St Bees Head and Heritage Coast is 10½ miles away, offering excellent coastal walks and golden sandy beaches, very popular with families. Head south for a trip on La’al Ratty, the famous Cumbrian miniature railway line which travels between Ravenglass and Dalegarth for a great family day out. Or if you’re feeling really energetic, you’re just a 55-minute drive to Wast Water and Wasdale Head giving you the shortest and most direct route to the summit of the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike. Beach 10½ miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 1¼ miles.
