Situated beside the North York Moors National Park, yet only 3 miles from Scarborough’s golden beaches, this cluster of high quality holiday cottages enjoy views over open meadowland, Scarborough Castle and the sea. Full of charm, character and original features, the cottages are well-equipped, stylish and comfortable – all the bedrooms have en-suite facilities. The rear lawned and enclosed garden, with patio, garden furniture and shared barbecue, has a western aspect ideal for evening relaxation, whilst the front lawned gardens overlook the countryside and sea.
Scalby, a lovely rural village with a historic church, café/restaurant, shops and two local inns, is only a 15-minute walk from the cottages and, if visitors can bear to leave the comfort and special tranquillity of Barmoor, it is ideally located for walking, cycling or touring the glorious forests, moorland and seascapes which are virtually on the doorstep. Each cottage offers a ‘Drive/walk, good food guide’, compiled by the owners to maximise visitors’ holiday enjoyment.
Among Scarborough’s many attractions are a Sea Life Centre and Theatre in the Round (offering productions and films for all ages) as well as plenty of restaurants, cafés and evening entertainment. Sea trips are available from the harbour and coarse fishing is enjoyed at nearby Throxenby Mere.
The Forge Valley Woodland Reserve lies ½ mile walk from the cottages and quiet lanes lead directly to Langdale Forest. Golf courses and riding stables are found locally and the more energetic might like to tackle the nearby Cleveland Way long distance footpath, with its stunning views over land and sea. The inviting moorland countryside and picturesque villages of ‘Heartbeat’ fame are a joy to explore and a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway is a must.
A 30-minute drive up the coast leads to the many delights of Robin Hood’s Bay and the old port of Whitby, a fascinating historic town, traditionally associated with Count Dracula and in whose attractive harbour tall ships often lie at anchor. The great houses of Sledmere, Burton Agnes and Castle Howard are all within 20 miles of the cottages.

We had a wonderful stay at the peaceful Rose Cottage. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed. It was so quiet in the evening - just the cows in the field out the front for company and the view over the castle in the distance. Would highly recommend a stay here. Oh… and the water pressure is immense - most powerful shower I’ve had in a long time!! To add to the experience, a few books/games or local information magazines would have been nice. We needed a chemist at one point and googled the nearest, so a bit of information about local doctors etc could be added to the good information pack. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Lovely location and friendly, helpful owners. The beds were very comfortable and there were seating areas at both the front and back of the cottage. The kitchen is in need of a draining rack for the sink. The sink is round and fitted into the worktop with no drainage grooves. After several wet floors and soggy tea-towels, we eventually found a tray which we put at the side of the sink for draining the dishes. The kitchen was adequately equipped but would have benefitted from a couple of smaller basins/dishes for use when cooking. The shelves in 2 en-suites needed reattaching to the wall. We couldn't find a visitor book to give feedback to the owners as I am sure they would have appreciated knowing the positives and also what could be 'tweaked' to make the experience even better. Also, I am diligent at home about recycling and avoiding single use plastic. The cottage had one refuse bin for every thing and although there were communal bins outside at the end of the cottages I wasn't clear about what to put in each. Single use plastic beakers in the bathrooms need to be got rid of - tacky and adding to plastic pollution

Very comfortable cottage with plenty of space, everything you need is available and the view across to the sea from lounge window is fantastic. Very quiet but easy access to shops, pubs and restaurants.
