If you are looking for stunning landscapes, rich wildlife, and friendly islanders, then look no further! Take in the breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains of Ben Nevis, Ben Cruachan and the Morven hills, alongside the rugged coastline which only an island can offer. This is both a truly unique experience and relaxing getaway. Enjoy the silence except for the odd sheep or barn owl which you might hear in the evenings. With amazing views all around, an Iron Age Broch, Tirefour Castle, which can be seen from Balure, is only a 5-minute walk away where you can enjoy panoramic views over the island including Ben Nevis to the north and Oban in the south.
The small Isle of Lismore lies on Loch Linnhe, north east of Mull, approximately 10 miles long by 1½ miles wide and is ideal to explore on foot or bike. Lismore benefits from being a tranquil and completely unspoiled island steeped in history dating back to the 13th century. Accessed by car ferry from Oban, or passenger ferry from Port Appin, the quiet single-track road running the length of the island is not particularly hilly and ideal for cycling with a café at the Heritage Centre for refreshments. The island is well served with a village shop/post office, café, heritage centre with museum and gift shop, bike hire, taxi service, wildlife tours, paddle board experiences, church and village hall.
Across the passenger ferry, the village of Port Appin has a gift shop, village store and lovely coastal walks. It’s also home to two of Scotland’s most prestigious eating places, so you can cross on the foot ferry, enjoy an excellent meal and a drink without requiring a car! The nearby village of Appin offers gift shops, cafes, hotel, a garden centre and a petrol garage. Within 3½ miles of the ferry is an excellent choice of cafes and inns, all offering breath-taking views and delicious local food. Despite its tranquillity, Lismore is conveniently located, lying between Fort William, known as the ’Outdoor Capital of the UK’, and the popular town of Oban, the ‘Seafood Capital of Scotland’ and ‘Gateway to the Isles’. The grandeur of Glencoe, with its stunning scenery, is just on the doorstep.
