Situated close to a working farm, this lovely detached holiday lodge is in a superb position overlooking the verdant valleys running down to the meandering River Stinchar, and just 2 miles from the stunning Ayrshire coast. For those cooler evenings it boasts a cosy open fire, making this a perfect destination for whatever time of the year. The village of Ballantrae has everything you need, including a pebble beach and superb views to Ailsa Craig, the granite jewel of the Clyde, and the evocative Isle of Arran. Visit Dumfries House, one of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes and best kept heritage secrets, or take the ferry to Ireland for a memorable day out. The famous Turnberry course is just half an hours’ drive along the dramatic coastline. The River Stinchar offers excellent fishing opportunities together with delightful riverside walks. The Galloway Forest Park is the UKs largest and is an official Dark Sky Park, offering the most incredible opportunities to view the night sky. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Electric central heating, electricity (£40 per week, £20 per short break October-March), bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Initial fuel for open fire included. Cot and highchair available on request. Welcome pack. Lawned garden with sitting-out area and garden furniture. Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. Please note: This property has a natural water supply from a spring. There are sloping banks in the garden.

    We had an amazing stay at the Balnowart Bungalow. Just exactly what we needed peace and quiet and lovely evenings by the open fire. I would definitely recommend it and I am sure we will come back.

    We had a lovely week at the cottage. It was lovely and clean, cosy modern interior and the open fire was great. The information when booking however is not clear about the distance to the farm "close" could be anything really. There is a road running 10ft from the back of the cottage which is used by heavy farm traffic from approximately 8am in October (this may be earlier in spring/summer) There is an electrified fence and fields of cows 10ft or less at points from the cottage. If you have pets or children with you you may find this an issue as there is no enclosed garden space. We had a problem with the water. We had no hot water for the majority of our stay. We contacted the owner who dispatched her husband to fix it on two separate occasions. He advised that he thought the problem had been resolved from the previous week but obviously not. The issue worsened and the water was discoloured and a very bad smell was coming from the kitchen sink area, this unfortunately was not resolved by the time we left. The owner's husband did attempt repairs very quickly after reporting them but the problems obviously need a qualified plumber to resolve. We have made the owner aware of these issues. This review is left without malice and intended only to be informative for any future guests to be aware before booking.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Delighted to hear our guests enjoyed their stay in our cottage, commenting on how clean and cosy it is, despite the issue with the hot water, which we dealt with within half an hour from notification of the problem, both times resolved by my husband who is a plumber. The location of the property is near to a farm, which to many of our guests is part of the charm of country living, particularly when the young calves are available to watch but are safe behind the electric fences. Warning signs attached for safety. As stated in the property description, the water is spring water & can on occasion, following extremely high rainfall, discolour slightly. The water, laboratory tested annually, is filtered & treated as required. The cottage is maintained to a high standard and feedback is always welcome to help us provide quality, comfortable accommodation. Further to our guest’s comments on the smell from the kitchen drains, we have, following careful investigation and monitoring concluded that, the smell reported perhaps came from an item that they had stored in the cupboard. There is no smell and the drains are in excellent working order.

    Well equipped cottage. Lovely inside, spacious and perfect location for quietness and privacy, but still local enough to shops for amenities. The only thing was there was no enclosed gardens which isn’t ideal if you have dogs, but it’s was so quiet, our dogs just sat on the grass undisturbed. Would definitely go back . Thanking the owners of the cottage for a perfect few days away : )

    We stayed at the bungalow for a week. It was so well equipped, everything had been thought of. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone who is looking to “get away”. Was a fantastic base to explore the area.
