The evening of the day I arrived, Saturday 13th April, there was a Cornish gale which lasted 48 hours. Winds and rain lashed the cottage almost day and night, and opening the front door was a dangerous adventure. None of this would have been an issue if the property (downstairs) had not been plagued by draughts. This resulted in my feeling I was sat in a large colander, with cold air coming under the front door, through the keyhole, and around the sides of the door. Worse still was the savage draught that came in from behind the window seat, immediately adjacent to the sofa. By 9pm I had wrapped myself in a duvet to keep warm, as the wind screamed through every gap like a possessed animal. I would recommend some actions to remedy these faults, as Cornish gales are not unknown until at least May sometimes, and the cottage is let all year round. Also, perhaps a little more wood (logs) could be provided for the log burner. The ones that were left for me lasted about an hour as I sat wrapped in my duvet and trying to avoid hypothermia. Apart from the I found the cottage a lovely place to escape to for a week, with a well equipped bathroom and kitchen and comfortable lounge and bedroom. The views from the outside back are amazing, open fields and the Atlantic in the distance. As for parking, I did not want to risk trying to squeeze the Ford Focus in such a tight spot, but parking out the front opposite the cottage was perfect for unloading and loading. So, overall I have given an 8 for comfort and value for money, but on the other points I have given a 10. Worth a visit, as long as there is no chance of a Cornish gale!

The cottage was clean, tiny but very cosy and the bed was amazingly comfy. There were nice touches with John Lewis bedding and Denby china. Although on the road, there was little noise at night. The parking space at the rear is really small but my partner managed to park our Polo with enough room to open the doors! There's plenty of space on the road if needed. We had to buy extra toilet rolls (there were two) and there was no foil, cling film etc but I supposed we've been spoilt before - just a minor niggle :o). Even though we had rubbish weather we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bal-Maiden's cottage.

Although the bathroom suits the cottage my friend and I are short si found it difficult to climb in and out of (need to get in Bath to use shower). Excellent for my dog with a secure garden front and rear and lots of walks from the door.
