Woodpecker Cottage is a gem of a holiday property. Tucked away near the top of Ord Hill in a forest plantation, the cottage feels a million miles away. But in reality Woodpecker Cottage is only ten minutes’ drive from the centre of Inverness. The detached cottage was built in the 19th century as there was a croft in these woods on this site. The owner has brought the building to life creating an excellent holiday property. The character of the exterior continues inside. The ground floor is open plan, full of interest and simply a pleasure to spend time in. The spacious kitchen/dining room is well equipped for your catering needs and its position affords a lovely view to the woods and fields. At the other end of the property is the cosy living room with views to the back and front. There’s also a ground floor bathroom. Stairs lead up to the characterful twin bedroom with a velux window offering views across the fields to the Kessock Bridge and Inverness. The interior of the cottage is wooden clad giving it a Highland feel. Being set within the forest ensures this interior is perfectly in keeping with its surroundings.
A real advantage of Woodpecker Cottage is being away from the hustle and bustle, but also only 10 minutes from the centre of Inverness, and even closer to the main road that leads to many of the Highlands’ highlights. A short drive takes you to Glen Affric, Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield and also the Cairngorms National Park. The Black Isle is on your doorstep with amazing wee places to explore, including fabulous Fortrose and Rosemarkie. And the North Coast 500 touring road is nearby for you to see other Highland sights a little further away, including Applecross, Torridon, Assynt and the wonderful east coast of Sutherland and Caithness. Beach 10 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
Woodpecker Cottage can be booked together with Eagles Nest (UK32416) and The Cabin (UK11734) to accommodate upto 6 guests.
