We spent 6 very relaxing days in this warm, comfortable house. It was great to all different spaces for 9 people to relax and do their own thing as well as do things together. The open fire was a huge selling point and it really paid off. So much to see and do around, limited only by weather. The house does need some upgrading, which is going to happen according to the owner. Great experience, provided the well needed October rest!

The Avalon house was set in an enviable location at the top of a quiet cul-de-sac, with open views of fells behind and Campbeltown lock to the front. All that you would expect was available in the cottage, with the added bonus of a lovely piano, in the conservatory and reclining chairs. It was very spacious downstairs but one of the upstairs bedrooms would have more comfortable without the addition of a third single bed. The kitchen had a lovely range double oven, there was a useful utility room where the washing machine and tumble drier were stored, together with a new double door fridge. Sky Tv and fast Wi-Fi was an additional bonus for some of our party. We were blessed with mostly dry weather for the week so were able to enjoy the beaches and cycling. Campbeltown has 3 distilleries which offer visits and tasting! The nearby Ardsheil hotel has a whisky bar with 700 Malt whiskies to taste. The area has some of the finest links golf courses in the world nearby. Notably Machrihanish golf club just a few miles away. Our party enjoyed a lovely day exploring the Mull of Kintyre immortalised by Paul and Linda McCartney. All in all a very enjoyable holiday in a beautiful are of Scotland.

The house wasn't properly clean, especially the kitchen. It looked like the property was a bit run down. Only the biggest bedrooms were refurbished but the kitchen needed to be refurbished - the sink had some concrete to try to fix a leak. Also, the two smaller bedrooms had an excess of beds - I guess to increase its capacity and price. It's not a house for 9 as they now advertise... Also, the main bathroom was o,d and the tub didn't have hot water. Also, the room downstairs had a leak on the ceiling and instead of fix it, they put a bowl on the floor... Also, when we arrived we were missing towels... We had only 4 for 7 people... We called the owner and they brought some from his brother place and we had to wait until next day for the full set. The drier wasn't working and they knew, because there was a note stuck on it saying that if it didn't work, it was because it had too much load, but in fact it didn't work to dry pair of socks... The best thing of the house were the fridge (brand new) and the back yard.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. Our property is a relaxed family home that is lived in and also allows pets. It is maintained as a 3 star property for the holiday market and the photos on the website are a true representation of the property. We had just started a new cleaner and this was the first changeover she was responsible for and due to guests arriving late she spent 7 hrs preparing the property, she is very experienced at her job and I am very disappointed by your comments that it wasn't clean. I believe she was advised that there was a very small drip if the upstairs shower was on for a long time so she put a bowl under it but it has been sorted now as soon as it was brought to my attention. I can only apologise for the lack of towels this was due to the laundry only packing 4 instead of 8. When I called after you arrived and asked if everything was OK, you advised me yes apart from only having 4 towels and you agreed to getting the rest in the morning. The bedrooms have been set up for the family market as advised by the assessor who does the property inspection. The lack of water for the bath is not usually an issue, Avalon has a water boiler that works fine, I can only suggest that all the hot water had been used but if you had waited a short while there would have been loads more. I built the house and brought up my family there and hot water was never an issue and we have not had any previous complaints. The note on tumble dryer to say it won't work if overloaded was because a previous guest took all their washing out of the washing machine without spinning it and the dryer could not cope with the weight, we are still using the same dryer which is working fine I can only think maybe the door wasn't closed properly? Regarding the mention of concrete on the worktop, it is actually a resin bond which is a temporary repair until we can replace work tops. The extra large fridge is lovely and the back yard, is actually the wide open fields with gorgeous views over the hills which can also be viewed from the king size bedroom with full glass sliding doors while enjoying a wee cup of tea in bed. Avalon is a beautiful family home to be enjoyed by our guests, with repeat bookings year after year.
