A former cider working farmhouse with a wealth of character, within walking distance of amenities and 3 miles from a Michelin Star restaurant.

Former cider making farmhouse

Situated in the centre of the small historic market town of Presteigne, this rural holiday cottage was originally a cider working farmhouse. The cottage has a wealth of character with wooden floors, beams and exposed stone, and idyllic gardens, with patio, lawn and the remains of the cider orchards. The whole cottage is totally enchanting and relaxing, you would not know you were in the town. Presteigne is a pretty border town formerly of Radnor county, and its central location is ideal for exploring the Welsh Marches and visiting historic sites and gardens. These include the award winning Judges Lodgings Museum. Being an ancient border town it has ten walks radiating from it. Offa’s Dyke is close by and the Heart of Wales Railway is a must as it meanders from Swansea in the south and Shrewsbury in the north, taking in 120 miles of glorious and varying countryside. There is fishing on the River Lugg and golf nearby, as well as many trails to explore in Radnor Forest. Ludlow has some remarkable eating places or visit Hereford or Hay-on-Wye. Visit Hergest Croft Gardens, Berrington Hall, Ludlow Castle or Dunkerton’s Cider Musuem, or follow the cycle trails through the renowned black and white villages. You could even enjoy a special treat at a Michelin Star restaurant within 3 miles. Properties W40409, W40410, W41354 and W42756 can be booked together and are ideal for larger groups. Shops, pubs and restaurants within 200 yards.

Third visit to Appletree House, this time with husband and 3 dogs. Heavy snow made for a relaxed, romantic break. Dogs had fun bouncing through the snow in the safe enclosed garden. Found the heating a bit slow to respond in the bitter weather. The open fire wasn’t very effective- why not put in a log burner?? Ours heats the whole house! It would save on central heating fuel bills. However, overall, this is a wonderful, well-equipped and homely cottage. Am sure I’ll be back for a fourth time. Thank you Ann.

A beautiful cottage in the heart of a lovely village. We loved its quirkiness with beamed ceilings, little rooms here and there, a fantastic collection of games and books, everything you could possibly need including towels and treats for the dog! The open fireplace was superb because the weather in January wasn't too kind. We would love to come back at some stage.

Lovely house, spacious and the owner welcomed our 6 dogs after we arrived .coming round to show us how stuff worked, this was a 3 generation xmas break and it worked quite well for us , the wine bar down the road does a lovely cocktail i think it was called a'dark and stormy' and the radnorshire arms served us really FAB food, staff were friendly and informative re local sightseeing. the shops are wonderful we really enjoyed the deli beautiful bread/ cheeses/ pate and nik naks ( pots etc). the local spa and premier mini supermarkets were open most of xmas . there is a shop that leaves logs outside with an honesty system. Of course the enormous open fire was lovely to have at christmas . The house was decorated with a tree, stocking either side of the fire and some fake ivy up the stairs, would have been nice to see a bit more effort made there , the tree was multicoloured fibreoptic not in keeping with the lovely old house. the kitchen/diner is a dream big table and games in the cupboard v welcome. the garden was q. big with enough room for dogs to run around in but not well tended, our dogs were trampling in rotting fallers the mounds of leaves not swept up made the garden look smaller than it was, some lovely plants neglected, shame. Although this cottage is dog friendly when you arrive there is an info folder with the rules usually we think dog friendly means they can go anywhere like a dog friendly hotel, but not so, they were restricted to downstairs, not on furniture and shut in kitchen if we went out, they were to 'not leave any trace' they had been there!! not really dog friendly. our 2 are lap dogs they are dogs that cuddle up on sofas apparently bred to keep ladies warm in draughty castles and they just belong on the sofa and bed, we managed but they were miserable unless we sat on the floor with them !!! overall a nice break, facilities in the town v good house not as comfortable as we hoped ( beds hard ) apparently most hol rentals in this town belong to same people they live in the town just around the corner from appletree.
