Seaton is a seaside town in East Devon on the south coast. It faces onto Lyme Bay, to the west of the mouth of the River Axe, with red cliffs to one side and white cliffs on the other. A sea wall provides access to the mostly shingle beach stretching for about a mile, and a small harbour. Seaton is on the stretch of Devon coastline known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the town offers a good range of shops, friendly cafés, restaurants and pubs. Once a thriving port, Seaton is now one of Devon’s most traditional seaside resorts with working open top trams trundling along the estuary. The town is gripped by deep red cliffs that exhibit millions of years of geological history. The town is also bordered by marshes and wetlands that are home to a wide variety of bird species and many visitors arrive festooned with binoculars hoping to spot a rarity.
For those of you looking to do some exercise, the whole area is a haven for walkers and cyclists with coastal paths, laneways and footpaths. In the villages of Colyford, Seaton and Lyme Regis you will find all the local pubs and restaurants eager to serve you their best, locally sourced food and drink. Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall’s River Cottage shop and restaurant are in the nearby market town of Axminster, if you are looking for somewhere special to eat.
Leisure and recreational opportunities include sailing, bowls, cricket, tennis, football and art classes. Located close by is the classic popular village of Beer, 2 miles, Lyme Regis, 7 miles, and Regency Sidmouth, 8 miles.
