Firstly, the location right on the beach cannot be faulted. The view is stunning (in all weathers, we experienced wind rain and sun!). The layout of the apartment is odd though. It was once over two storeys, but the owner, who lives above, has crudely blocked off the stairs making two, one storey apartments with apparently no regard for building regulations regarding soundproofing! This is most noticeable when he is watching tv. He is very deaf and has the volume at full blast. Also the floors are wooden and very creaky so he can be heard very clearly walking around, at 4am on one occasion, using the toilet and even sneezing. The apartment is perfectly adequate for 2 people if a little odd as already mentioned. The bedroom has no external windows but has 3 doors! Kitchen well equipped but the large fridge freezer which appears in the photos has been replaced with a much smaller fridge with icebox. No sign either of the mentioned barbeque or the pictured patio furniture. Also there is no local shop. This closed 18 months ago. Nearest supermarket of any size is in Ramsgrange, a 10 minute drive away. Duncannon itself is basically a beach with the only other facility being a pub - excellent food! There is a takeaway and a beach cafe but these are seasonal. Having said that, would I return? Yes, but only when the noise issues with the apartment have been sorted or to another property.

Caretaker was excellent- very helpful. Hot water very slow; kitchen tap wobbly ; bizarre layout. Not the luxury apartment we had anticipated.

The location of the cottage/apartment could not be better right on the beach in a quiet corner . However it appears that the apartment used to have an upstairs with the stairs now blocked off in a very rough fashion. A double bedroom has been created in part of what had been the living area which was functional, the bed comfortable and furniture adequate. It has a total number of 3 doors into the room which was unsightly and unnecessary with the blocked off stair case going up through the created room. The down side was there is an elderly man who seems to reside in the now created self contained upstairs flat that was originally part of the building before the rough attempt of separation occurred. He was obviously hard of hearing as his television was on full blast a lot of the day and often till around midnight which was a real nuisance! Also every time he walked about his footsteps could be heard loudly as the ceiling groaned. It reminded me of the tale of "Jack and the beanstalk" with us living under the beanstalk and the giants footsteps clearly heard above. The was a separate bedroom at the rear of the apartment from which it looked like the current bathroom had been created the door to which was behind the bathroom door but the key was in the door so access was possible. The other side of the blocked up staircase was in there and there were two more beds although it seemed that it was not intended to be used. It was a bit of a dumping ground with steps, a rowing machine and other bits laid about in there BUT the most alarming item was a huge stags head mounted on the wall! Very bizarre and a little unnerving if I am honest. The lady who gave us the key was very nice extremely helpful and showed us round on arrival. The man upstairs TV could be heard as we entered the property and she made reference to the fact he was hard of hearing but we did not realize the impact her words would prove to have. I would definitely stay in that block again just not in apartment 1 as the others that had not be altered had upstairs bedrooms and balcony's to sit out on. Also on the details of the cottage/apartment it said with a B B Q but we never actually saw one or the white table and chairs on the patio it was photographed with. The addition of deck chairs or relaxing garden chairs to sit outside on the paved area would be a distinct advantage. There was a little glass table inside the apartment with two wicker type chairs which we utilized to sit on outside but proper relaxer chairs would have been a bonus. We intend to visit Duncannon again in the future and would recommend the area.
