Nearby is Drake’s House, where Sir Francis Drake is believed to have lodged whilst buying forest timber for ships.

From Gatcombe there are walks along the Severn, the cottage is close to a recently restored section of the Severn Way with fantastic views. There are many walks in the forest nearby, also opportunities for cycling, canoeing, fishing and treetop walking. There are castles, a mine and a showcave within easy reach. Cheltenham, Gloucester, the Cotswolds, Bristol and Wales are within an hour’s drive.
