Anvil cottage is a spacious and comfortable cottage which is in a great location to explore the Forest of Dean. It is down by the shores of the river Severn but only a short drive in the car to anywhere in the Forest that you want to visit. It's in a quiet hamlet that is very peaceful, the owners have made the garden very attractive with roses, honeysuckle, table/chairs, arbor seat and a lovely seat which swings like a rocking chair. The only downside for us as dog owners was that the garden was not enclosed - I misunderstood the photos and thought it had a back garden, but the garden is at the front of the cottage so open to a driveway shared with the owners and to the (quiet) road. As our young (fast) border collie barks at & chases cars I could not safely use the beautiful garden. The only improvement the owner could make is to make part of the garden secure e.g. the lawn could be made secure with a bit of extra fencing and a gate. I really enjoyed reading about the history of the hamlet & the cottage used by salmon fishermen.

Lovely stay in lovely cottage, a little isolated but very quiet as a result. Our collie 'blue' thoroughly enjoyed himself, settled in quickly and loved all he walking nearby. lovely area of England, plenty of sceni walks and interesting places to visit. Would highly recommend thee Rising Sun Inn at moseley green, if you can find it!

Having received a great welcome from our hosts Nigel and Marie, it took us only minutes to settle in for our 3 night stay. The information and reading matter left in the Cottage were first class and gave us so many ideas for “things to do” over the next few days. The location is just perfect - regardless of whether you just want to “chill out” and relax or undertake perhaps something more energetic such as walking and cycling. We have no hesitation in recommending Anvil Cottage. Thank you Nigel and Marie for such a well needed break.

We absolutely loved our stay at Anvil Cottage! The cottage is beautiful and the location is ideal if you are interested in walking (and have a dog like us). We saw a wild boar and her piglets in the forest which was a bonus. We like to cook and found the kitchen to be well equipped. The beds and sofas are comfy. The double bedroom is huge and twin room is also a decent size. The owners are lovely and gave us some good tips for walks and local amenities. We will definitely be booking again. Thank you!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks Alice for such a nice review! We are so glad you liked Anvil Cottage and the area. It must have been very exciting to see the boar. Unfortunately we have not seen any ourselves, they do not come into this area; apparently they will not cross the A48, which is a mile away. We hope to see you again, Marie and Nigel.
