A haven for outdoor enthusiasts! Situated within beautiful surroundings with many outdoor activities available nearby.

Dating back to the 17th century, this barn conversion is set on a 100-acre, family-run working arable and livestock farm, alongside four other properties, just a few miles from Whitchurch. It has been lovingly and thoughtfully converted to offer very welcoming holiday accommodation, retaining many original features including exposed oak beams and trusses. The barn shares a multi-sports court for mini tennis, badminton and football, as well as a fantastic indoor heated swimming pool. The shared swimming pool is available for exclusive use for the five barns on-site and booking slots are available throughout the day, booked on your arrival. The swimming pool is open all year round but opening times may vary. A woodland picnic area lies a short walk away from your barn and there is a fantastic enclosed toddler play area available for children under 6 years. Walkers can explore the Shropshire Union Canal, just 5 minutes away, and the Shropshire Way footpath runs through the farm, while coarse fishing is less than 5 miles and horse riding 1½ miles away. For cyclists, the Mercian Cycle Path runs past the farm. Whilst the barns enjoy a peaceful rural setting, they are still very close to amenities. Whitchurch is approximately 2½ miles away, the delightful market town has many splendid buildings from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times, all dominated by St. Alkmund’s Church. Internationally renowned for its clock production dating back to the 1650s, Whitchurch is known as ’the Home of Tower Clocks’, and a fine example can be seen on one of the barns. There are many excellent shops, pubs and restaurants in the town which is perfectly placed for touring all of Shropshire, North Wales and Cheshire. Attractions close by include Ellesmere with its beautiful lakes, 11 miles, a variety of National Trust mansions and gardens, and the historical city of Chester with its excellent shopping and famous races, 25 miles, with the Blue Planet Aquarium close by. Chester Zoo, as seen on TV’s ’Secret Life of a Zoo’, is only 30 minutes away and is one of Europe’s largest zoos, helping endangered animals from all over the world. Other places of interest include Hawkstone Follies, Cheshire Ice Cream Farm, RAF Cosford, Fenn’s and Whixall Mosses, and the incredible Ironbridge Gorge. Shop and restaurant 2 miles, pub approx 1 mile.

Emma’s Dairy was amazing and surpassed our expectations. We took a young family and the cottage had everything you would ever need. The cleanliness was great from the Cottage to the pool to the play area. Without doubt we would stay here again. One thing we found particularly useful was their Facebook page which suggests activities and days out well worth joining it on the run up to your stay. Thanks for a great week.

Overall we had a lovely holiday and our issues are relatively minor: The first was that as we were travelling with our baby for the first time we contacted the owners to see if there was any chance that we could get into the house before 4pm to make our trip easier. They said no as they had 6 cottages to clean between 10am-4pm and so it wasn't possible. This was a shame but never mind we thought until we arrived to find A) only 2 cottages were being used and B) ours was not exactly well cleaned. The crockery, cutlery and glasses all needed cleaning before we could use them - some due to the lack of rinse aid in the dishwasher, we later discovered, but some because they'd simply not been cleaned. Cobwebs all over the place, a toe nail down the side of the couch, a vacuum cleaner which hadn't been emptied in I don't know how long.... The next was that the security gate at the foot of the stairs was in very poor condition. So much so that our 1 year old could get it open if you didn't try very hard to force it shut. This is almost more dangerous that no gate - it offers the illusion of safety. Third is that this is not really a 3 bedroom property. I mean there are 3 doors into 3 rooms, don't get me wrong, but 2 of them are joined by a hatch which bangs/rattles every time either door is opened. Really not ideal when our baby was in one room and we were next door. We could hear every noise made in either room - not great with a snuffly baby or a snoring dad! In fact I don't think it'd be ideal for many people. The heating was set and you couldn't change it - it was far too hot for a baby in the evenings and far too cold in the morning - we get up before 6 which is when the heating switched on. The internet speed was poor and somehow dropped off completely at night. This meant on our late night wake ups with the baby there was no chance of entertainment! Finally, although the pool was lovely for us to play in, the location of the steps and heater meant that lengths weren't really possible - about 2 strokes and you were banging into them at either end. All of that said, we had a nice holiday. Very quiet location, a drive away from anything (no pubs/shops/restaurants easily accessible on foot). Lot's of things around and about if you have a car to entertain - Monkey forest, Hoo farm, Ellsemere lake and the Ice cream farm to name but a few.

Response on behalf of the owner:- I am glad you had a lovely holiday and we are sorry for your relatively minor issues you say you encountered. We would like to answer them to reassure future guests. We take a great deal of pride in our cottages and we are baffled as to how you found dirty dishes, dirty vacuum cleaner etc. We have a great team of cleaners including myself, my husband and three others and we all work to a check sheet to make sure nothing is missed. This check sheet also include checking the stair gate which was working correctly on your arrival. If you were having problems working it correctly then if you had let us know we would have shown you how it works, it is a simple Lindam Gate. The heating is set at a comfortable 21 degrees, again if you required it to be higher or lower than you could have asked and we could have adjusted it for you. The internet speed is 3Mb in our Rural location and it is clearly stated in the information about our barns that the internet is this speed. We are in the process of getting Superfast broad band to all our properties and we will update our details when this is in place. Again our Indoor heated pool’s size, is clearly advertised in the information about us, there are also photographs that are clear and show the pool layout. It is a beautiful pool and the fact that guests have it for their exclusive use makes it even more special. It is a shame we were not contacted at the time and thus we were not given the chance to rectify anything.
