Description

Stunning period property in an idyllic, peaceful setting in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. This is a perfect holiday retreat with outstanding countryside views.

Alderfen is an outstanding Grade II listed property in the heart of the Norfolk Broads National Park, adjacent to the little known tranquil haven of Alderfen Broad.
Dating back to 1650, the property was originally built to house the workers who created Alderfen Broad, and it has now been lovingly restored and renovated to a good standard, in keeping with its heritage. This property provides all the benefits of home comforts to compliment the beautiful period features. Alderfen is full of character and charm, with a spectacular vaulted garden room offering stunning uninterrupted views of the landscaped gardens, meadow and unspoilt countryside beyond. There is a stream and a pond with a waterfall, all of which can be enjoyed from the raised decking area on sunny days. The property is spacious and flexible, with a large wood burner in the main living room for cosy winter nights, a separate library, well-equipped kitchen and a stylish family bathroom. A connecting door leads from the main house to a substantial ground floor annexe with a second kitchen, living area with garden views, and a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom. This makes it perfect for families or friends getting together, whilst also enjoying their own privacy.
Alderfen’s unique National Park setting offers nature lovers and families the chance to explore the miles of unspoilt countryside, coastline and forests nearby. There are plenty of activities for children in the area, such as the award-winning outdoor adventure park, BeWILDerwood, only two miles away. Horse riding is available within 6 miles. The wide sandy beaches of Winterton-on-sea and Waxham are just a 15 minute drive away, and the beautiful North Norfolk coast is easily reached by car.
Alderfen is situated down a quiet country lane, just a mile from the picturesque village of Neatishead with its award-winning pub restaurant, and a village shop with a café. The boardwalk around Barton Broad leading from the village provides a wonderful opportunity to explore one of the many broads in the area. Neatishead is situated just a short drive from the bustling village of Horning with a choice of three pubs, a superb seafood restaurant, cafés, a wonderful deli and a range of gift shops. You can hire boats, bikes, and canoes from here or take a trip on the Southern Comfort, a popular Mississippi river boat tour. Wroxham, just five miles away, has a range of shops, banks and various activities and day boats available to book from the Tourist Office. There is also a rail service from Wroxham to the city of Norwich with frequent connecting services to London. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

We had a great long weekend at beautiful Alderfen Cottage. The cottage is large with plenty of room for our group to spread out, and is very well equiped. I would really recommend Alderfen Cottage, it is a lovely place to stay and is full of character. It is a pity it wasn't decorated for Christmas as it was only the week before, but that is a minor criticism and didn't spoil what was a very enjoyable weekend.
