Stay in this cosy family-friendly holiday cottage for six in the heart of historic Rye and close to the beach of Camber Sands. 76 The Mint is full of character. In its time it has been a ladies’ dress shop and a tea room but today it is a cosy holiday home just off the High Street in medieval Rye. You step through the front door into the sitting room with comfy seating. It is a pleasant and calming place to relax whatever time of day. There is also a selection of classic board games books and family-favourite DVDs. Behind the sitting room is the dining room and a modern galley kitchen with the added benefit of a small sunroom extension. This really opens the space up to make a lovely light area in which to enjoy lazy lunches or evening meals. French doors open out onto a small sunny courtyard, a nice spot for a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Through the kitchen is a modern shower room.

Stairs lead up to the first floor bedrooms; one single bedroom to the rear of the property and another to the front that can be configured as a twin or super king-size room. There is a family bathroom on this floor with a large roll-top clawfoot bath.

Another flight of stairs leads up to the top floor where there is another single bedroom to the rear and a double bedroom to the front. Both rooms offering small washbasins and with the double offering rooftop views of Rye and beyond.

This family-friendly cottage welcomes guests of any age but it is set over three levels with two flights of relatively narrow stairs. Due to the delicate nature of the Georgian banisters it is not possible to install stair gates without damaging the wall. There are cargo-style nets that can be attached across the top and bottom of each flight to help deter the little ones, however they are not intended to be a robust barricade. 76 The Mint has been sympathetically updated without losing any of the charm you would expect from a self-catering cottage in Rye. A cosy comfortable base near Mermaid Street for exploring all that the surrounding area has to offer, Rye and beyond. A gentle stroll and you can visit the Heritage Centre where you can watch the town model’s ’Sound and Light’ show which goes into detail about the history and the colourful past of Rye and its inhabitants. Or amble around the many antique shops in the Strand Quay and hunt out a bargain! Just a 10-minute drive is the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy the flora and fauna. You can choose to walk out to Camber Castle, originally located on a shingle spit and where once it protected the towns of Rye and Winchelsea before the sea receded. Although no longer open to visitors it is still a striking landmark and worth a visit. The award winning beach of Camber Sands is just a short drive away and has miles of sandy beach and dunes to explore. Or visit the rock pools at low tide on the pebbly beach at Pett Level just a 10-minute drive from Rye. The towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a 30-minute drive away and here you can get mainline trains to London if you wish to explore the capital for a day. Or you could take a day trip to the continent on the Eurostar which can be picked up from Ashford International station with trains to Paris Lille and Bruges available. Alternatively, the ferries run from Dover just 45 minutes away, or the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone a 45 minute drive. Other attractions included the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Steam Railway, Smugglers’ Adventure, What’s on Scallop Festival, Jack in the Green Festival, Rye Arts and Music Festival, Wild Boar Week and Rye Bonfire Celebrations. Local bus service run to Ashford, Tenterden and Hastings, and mainline rail service from Rye for trains to Brighton, Hastings, Ashford and London. Beach 4½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 176 yards.
