This interesting, split-level apartment offers comfortable, homely accommodation for couples on a romantic break.

Enjoy some rest and relaxation in this riverside apartment on the banks of the Rother, with a private quay and mahogany-decked sun terrace. At high tide, the boats will glide past, and you might even be lucky enough to spot a seal searching for a fish supper! A short stroll brings you into the medieval Cinque Port town of Rye, with its cobbled streets, wide selection of restaurants, atmospheric beamed pubs (the one time haunt of many a smuggler), delightful tea rooms and, of course, fish and chip shops. Explore the many galleries, and you might even find a bargain at the brocante and antique shops. Don’t miss the view from the tower of St Mary’s Parish Church across what was once known as the smuggling capital of England some 300 years ago. Enjoy cycling (bikes for hire in Rye), wildlife at the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and Dungeness, and walking along the Royal Military Canal. Hastings, Battle and Camber Sands are all within a short drive. Beach 4 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

Really nice weekend, lovely location and owner has been very thoughtful about how he has equipped apartment.

The cottage, decor, fixtures and fittings were all below standard. A number of comments have been made to this effect in the customer feedback book but it doesn't appear that these have been taken seriously. The cottage needs a refit and redecorating and those rock hard pillows replacing! If that's beyond the finances available then at least replace the smelly bathroom carpet with something more appropriate, give the place a deep clean and a new lick of paint.

Excellent location. Furnishing and fittings are a bit dated and tired. everything worked fine.

The boathouse is a nice place to stay however it needs a facelift as it has become very tired. Also the floorboards creaked in the kitchen and on the stairs and need sorting out. We were a little disapointed as it looked good in the photograph. The bubbly and milk were a nice gesture.

Rye is a lovely town but the accommodation decor seemed old fashioned and basic. It felt in desperate need of some modernisation. Two single beds where a double should be and a noisy boiler in the bedroom was far from ideal.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I’m very sorry to hear that this customer wasn’t satisfied. I am a little surprised that he wanted a double bed, when the apartment is advertised as having twin beds. He is correct in that the boiler is in a cupboard in the bedroom, as built and within building regulations. The guest doesn’t seem to have followed recommended guidance on the simple step of turning the boiler off if found to be a disturbance. Finally the bedroom does indeed have an art deco dressing table and matching wardrobe with distressed mirrors but I have resisted replacing it because so many of my guests comment on how much they like it. I have a quite a few guests who have returned to this apartment a number of times.
