This very special area boasting miles of fabulous beaches, ancient woodland and river estuaries as well as towns and villages just brimming over with charm and character plus there’s a great choice of holiday cottages in the Suffolk Coast and Heathlands.
The area has been designated as AONB and is a mainly low lying coastal landscape and a fantastic place to explore on foot as a family or with your dog. Cottage rentals in the Suffolk Coast and Heathlands can be rural, on the coast, have an enclosed garden if taking young children or pets or part of our luxury collection, the choice really is yours.
The area also includes 3 National Nature Reserves and many sites of Special Scientific Interest plus the well-known and recently televised RSPB Minsmere Reserve. There are three long distance walks to choose from, the Suffolk Coast Path, (50 miles long), the Sandlings Walk, (60 miles long,) and the Stour and Orwell Walk (40 miles long). Add to this lots of circular walks, try the Dunwich Heath gorse walk with coastal views, tracts of heather, areas of woodland, expanses of grassland and of course gorse.
There are many small towns and villages to discover such as Aldeburgh, Southwold and Felixstowe, to name but a few. Some of the villages will include a dog show in their very popular summer fetes, so keep an eye out, perhaps not Crufts but lots of family fun.
There are many National Trust properties, parks and gardens hosting events throughout the year such as Ickworth House or perhaps visit Lavenham, one of Britain’s best preserved mediaeval villages.
Suffolk is famous for its farm shops and farmers markets so great to stock up on some of the UK’s best produce. Don’t forget to plan a trip to Newmarket, a truly beautiful English town and home to the National Stud and Newmarket Racing if you fancy a flutter!
