Holiday cottages in Wales offer a fantastic mix of beautiful landscapes and vibrant cities. One day you could be enjoying the unrivalled tranquillity and expansive views of Snowdonia, and the next you could be joining the throng at Cardiff’s majestic Millennium Stadium. To borrow a well-worn phrase, Wales truly is a destination with something for everyone. The only problem with so much choice is finding the right thing for you and your fellow holidaymakers to enjoy, so we’re going to make a few recommendations for an unforgettable holiday in Wales.

Wales really is a country of highlights, with an incredible array of fantastic attractions, both natural and man-made. One of the best ways to get your bearings is to head upwards, so we’re going to recommend a trip to Snowdonia National Park first. If you’d like a bird’s eye view of your stunning surroundings there really is no place like it. The circular Precipice Walk offers a slightly challenging two-hour trek but the pay off is expansive views as far as the eye can see. Mount Snowdon is easily accessible thanks to a train ride, or a climb for more intrepid visitors. However you choose to reach it, the views from the surrounding landscape are breathtaking. Less taxing, but no less beautiful, is the Pembrokeshire Coast. The UK's only truly coastal national park offers stunning limestone cliffs, soft golden sands and cool blue waters as far as the eye can see. Wales’ industrial heritage is celebrated at the Llechwedd Slate Caverns. One of the country’s premier tourist attractions, it offers both a fascinating insight into the lives of the miners and a truly unique landscape to explore and admire. If you fancy a more vibrant holiday experience then there are few better locations than Cardiff. Like Wales itself, the capital city offers a wonderful celebration of history and a wealth of contemporary attractions, so it’s perhaps unsurprising to find out that it’s also one of the most popular destinations for those with Welsh holiday cottages.

A beautifully varied landscape makes Welsh cottages perennially popular with outdoor enthusiasts and those who fancy enjoying the fresh air and stunning spectacle of some of the UK’s most celebrated natural locations. Hikers, climbers, cyclists and boaters will all find much to enjoy in the ‘Land of Song’. Pet owners will be equally satisfied with their choice of holiday destination and there are plenty of places to stretch the legs and give the dog a welcome run-around. If you fancy a more cosmopolitan experience then you’ll find more than enough cities offering great shopping opportunities, vibrant nightlife and a packed calendar of cultural events.

Fron Isaf Cottages nestle within the owners’ beautiful grounds and have been sensitively converted from old slate and stone barns into cosy and attractive holiday accommodation, and Ysgubor Uchaf (ref OWW) is a silver award winner with the Green Tourism Council. The stunning indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi make these very special properties. Each cottage has its own outdoor area with private seating and a barbecue. In addition there is a large mature garden with a decked seating area perfect for enjoying the rural views and watching the sun set over the Preselis.
    The properties’ environmental credentials are strong. Water comes from a spring and much of the heating and hot water is from a geothermal source. A footpath leads directly from the cottages providing circular walks of varying length in the surrounding countryside.
    The nearest town is Narberth, with its wonderful shopping opportunities. About half an hour’s drive to the south are Tenby, Saundersfoot and Amroth with their glorious beaches. While half an hour to the north the dramatic Pembrokeshire and Cardigan coastlines offer beautiful bays, sandy beaches and market towns like Newport, with its excellent restaurants and many good pubs. Carmarthen and Haverfordwest are half an hour away and both towns have a good range of shops, supermarkets and a market. Tourist attractions like Oakwood, Folly Farm, Anna’s Welsh Zoo, Blue Lagoon Water Park as well as The National Botanic Garden of Wales, Aberglasney Gardens and St. Davids - Britain’s smallest city - make for a good day out. There are also at least seventeen castles to visit within an hour’s drive. Excellent walking in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and on the coast path, as well as activities like golfing, sailing, fishing, cycling and horse riding are plentiful in the area. Shop, 3½ miles, pub 1 mile.

The open-plan living area with a cosy wood burner has full width patio windows from which to enjoy the lovely views that surround the property, so even on a rainy day you can bring the outdoors in. The comfortable and beautifully presented bedroom also has patio doors that lead directly out onto the garden. Complete with several seating areas, a private hot tub and a barbecue, the garden is the perfect place to unwind and relax. There is even a herb garden so that guests can pick their own herbs to cook with.

    Beehive Cottage is located in the Denbighshire village of Bodfari, which is within the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ideal for walkers, you can access the Clwydian Way directly from the property grounds, and Offa’s Dyke footpath is just a quarter of a mile away. Beehive Cottage is also in an Area of Archaeological Interest, with the ancient hill fort Moel Caer being close by. The medieval market town of Denbigh with its castle is just five miles away. Here you will find walking tours which take you around the town and castle. This is also a great place to stock up on the essentials. Other market towns worth visiting include Ruthin, 11 miles and Mold, 12 miles. Bodfari, where the cottage is located has a small shop, which is also an art gallery and a cafe, and two pubs offering great food, one of which offers take-out food, both within a mile.

    Whilst Beehive Cottage enjoys the idyllic rural location with 360° views of open countryside and rolling hills, the coast is also very accessible, and the beaches of Rhyl, Prestatyn and Talacre can all be reached within a short drive. Other places of interest within a short drive include St Winefride’s Well, nine miles, Llangollen, 28 miles, the Victorian seaside town of Llandudno and the Great Orme, 26 miles. National Trust’s Bodnant Garden, 25 miles, and Erdigg, 28 miles, are also worth a visit. Snowdonia is accessible from here and can be reached in around 45 minutes via the scenic Denbigh Moors. On the other side of the border, you can easily visit the historic cities of Chester and Liverpool. For overseas visitors, Manchester airport is just 45 minutes drive away. For evening entertainment, apart from pubs and restaurants there is Theatre Clwyd in Mold, Llandudno Theatre and Rhyl Pavillion.

    Apart from being ideal for walkers, the area is fantastic for cycling. Golfers wont be disappointed either with two courses in Denbigh, five miles, and three others within a short distance.

    After a busy day out exploring, you can come back and relax in the hot tub, or indulge in an on site treatment such as a Aromatherapy/sports massage, Reflexology, Indian head massages, Reiki (treatments arranged directly with the owner). Beehive Cottage was named after the owners’ love of bees and who are beekeepers themselves, but the property was originally named The Sanctuary, which says it all.
