Find cottages in Presteigne

On the south bank of the River Lugg and nestling close to the English border is the historic town of Presteigne, the gateway to Wales.

With a rich history dating back to the Domesday book, there is a wealth of antiquity to discover in Presteigne, much of which can be seen in the town''s historic buildings. For example at the beautiful Anglo-Saxon parish church, which houses a simply stunning 16th century Flemish tapestry, or the Jacobean charm of the Radnorshire Arms and the striking Victorian styling’s of the Judge’s Lodging.

Presteigne is not only known for its rich history, it is also famous as being a modern cultural centre, playing host to two festivals; the bizarrely named Sheep Music Festival, organised by the local community, has been held annually since 1992. The Presteigne Festival of Music and the Arts is on a much larger scale than the Sheep Music Festival, held over six days in late August and mixes the contemporary with the classical in a rich and diverse programme that supports living composers and helps to nourish young, exciting talent.

Presteigne is perfect as a cottage base from which to explore the stunning countryside that extends both sides of the Anglo-Welsh border. There are many managed footpaths and cycleways in the surrounding area, including sections of the beautiful Offa’s Dyke National Path. In addition there are quite a few golf courses or, for the more adventurous, riding and climbing centres.

Whether you are looking for history, music or great outdoor activities this area will fit the bill; search for cottages in Presteigne today and start planning your perfect escape.
